Did you notice? A thing happened yesterday in America....

You may know I love haunting onotheydidnt on LJ,
just for the fun of it.

They're an excellent source for who is racist,
sexist, violent, harassers... etc.

I don't need to comment on yesterday,
although I have plenty to say.

What I will do... is repost just a single thread from onotheydidntabout Kevin Sorbo's tweets about yesterday ( Read more... )

protest, patriarchy

I didn't check SNOPES... I just checked THE NEWS! Ha! Of course 99% of the news coverage is on the Trumpen du jour.... but SOME outlets DID remember that OTHER THINGS WERE HAPPENING, and there were SERIOUS counter protests going on. Problem was... they were a bunch of people amassing and kneeling and not doing anything else. The major news hasn't caught on to WHY there weren't many police at the capital, even though the threats of violence had been very... open.
They were blocks away... watching over brown people who were kneeling in protest "in case something happened".

Okay, you've got me. I will watch Democracy Now. And I didn't know this...

To be honest, it was BARELY on Democracy Now.. which covered the protests the night before on January 5th, and the tearing down of the BLM flag by the Proud Boys at a historically black church.... but even their news coverage was overtaken by the mobbing of the capital and the late voting session come January 7th. I had to do deep internet digging to find out what else was going on in the city... and its NEARLY impossible to find.

News loves the conflict too much... and it is too inviting to capitalize on it.

I did notice that BUT I also noticed a lack of sensationalism usually I've been accessing them online.

I really liked her information telling 'us' who that was at the first break (I forget the name), "Chicago musician" And I also liked 'remember, wearing a mask is an act of love.' And...the interview with the Professor from UConn was fantastic.

I quit watching network news awhile ago. David Muir is a hometown boy and I got so sick of his posturing...and now that I watch Democracy Now I realize what we've been spoonfed.

RIGHT?!

Like I said.... the first 20 minutes of "Headlines" on any given day is more actual, literal news and reporting than you get in a 24 hour cable news cycle.... and I stand by that.
