Yet another project for me to practice languages! It's simple enough: I write a short, simple text about a random word in the languages I'm studying. I got Italian, French, Esperanto, German, and Japanese. Russian, Chinese and others had to be left out this time due to my lack of skills. I found this series of videos that teach Italian to Japanese people. I like watching it because the Japanese they use is very easy to understand, but that's beside the point. Can't you just imagine that it's Feliciano trying to teach Kiku Italian? (Never mind that the Italian guy is actually from Naples.)

This might not interest anyone here, but as I began to learn Italian, I realized that a lot of words my family uses are from Italian - or, more specifically, from the Calabrian dialect. I've start making a list of those words, but it's pretty difficult, because they feel as normal to me as Portuguese words (never mind that even as child I did find ( Read more... )

Qualche anno fa ho trovato questa canzone da Mario di Stefano. Per qualche ragione (forse l'ho letto da qualche parte) pensavo fosse una canzone siciliana, ma dopo aver imparato un po' di napoletano, credo che invece sia una canzone napoletana. Qualcuno mi può dire in quali dialetti italiani si pronuncia la "s" con il suono di "sh" (cioè come lo "sc" in "pesce") prima di una consonante? Ad esempio, "fresco" > "freshco", "sporco" > "shporco"...
