Depp is reuniting with director Tim Burton ("Charlie and the Chocolate Factory") to play the title role in a film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical "Sweeney Todd," about a 19th century barber seeking bloody revenge over his wrongful imprisonment.
The star of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," this year's biggest hit with a domestic gross of $400 million, is expected to do his own singing, said Marvin Levy, spokesman for DreamWorks, which is co-producing "Sweeney Todd" with Warner Bros.
"Sweeney Todd" marks the sixth collaboration between Depp and Burton, who scored a blockbuster in summer 2005 with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," in which the actor played the reclusive candyman Willy Wonka.
Their other films together are "Tim Burton 's Corpse Bride," "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood" and "Sleepy Hollow."
The filmmakers plan to start shooting "Sweeney Todd early in 2007, with the film due in theaters late next year.
Hudson Dating 'Dupree' Co-Star Wilson?
Kate Hudson's romantic relationship with her You, Me & Dupree co-star Owen Wilson may be the reason behind her surprising split from rocker husband Chris Robinson, according to media reports in the US. The Almost Famous star announced she was separating from The Black Crowes singer on Monday after nearly six years of marriage. According to American publication Us Weekly, Hudson and Wilson kept things platonic while filming the romantic comedy, but a romance blossomed in June, when the two began the press junket for the film. A source tells the magazine, "This is not (just) a fling. Kate is crazy about him. Owen gives her so much attention, and she loves it!" The pair have reportedly spent many nights together at Wilson's home in Santa Monica, California and have even been spotted together having breakfast at health food restaurant A Votre Sante on August 3. The source also says the pair "often shared hotel rooms" while promoting You, Me & Dupree around the world. A representative for Hudson did not deny the affair when contacted by the magazine and had a "no comment." Wilson's lawyer tells the publication, "(Anything) that suggests that the separation of Ms. Hudson was caused by Mr. Wilson... is absolutely false."

The condition is a form of arthritis and causes sudden and excruciating pain, swelling, redness and stiffness in joints. Leto's representative confirms that the gout was "caused by the dramatic weight loss for a movie role." The condition is caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints. The Panic Room actor packed on 62 pounds for his role as John Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman in Chapter 27. He was required to shift the weight quickly for subsequent roles.
Deschanel Beats Spears and Lohan to Joplin Role

Who saw Project Runway? I hated last night's episode. How can Alison get out?!?!?? I was on Team Alison! But I'm also in Team Uli, so I'm okay. But I have a question. How is Vincent still in? I hated his outfit yesterday! Alison was bad too, but Vincent has a history of bad outfits! And Tim was really just awful for calling her model fat. Okay, she looked a little heavier in the dress, but still. I mean seriously. Her model was probably like a size 4 or something. She was thin.Heidi was also kind of mean when she called the model a plus sized model because of what she was wearing. Argh!
