-----------------------------

Sungmin woke up the next day, feeling fresh and unbelievably better, his fever went down though his body still feels hot with the cold temperature around him. He wouldn’t have noticed Kyuhyun on the couch if he didn’t hear him cough. He slowly approached Kyuhyun, dizziness still hanging over him, and at instinct felt Kyuhyun’s forehead. “Oh, great,” He whispers, hinting Kyuhyun’s probably got the flu.

“What are you doing up?” Sungmin asks, holding a tray of soup, when he saw Kyuhyun on the stairs when he was about to go up. “You’re not supposed to get out of bed,” He says worriedly, going up and blocking Kyuhyun.

“I have work to do,”

“No, go back to bed,” Sungmin insists.

“Sungmin, I’m alright,”

“No you’re not,” Sungmin says; reaching up his hands and feeling his forehead. “Your fever is worse than mine, go back to bed,” He continues, gesturing to Kyuhyun and as Kyuhyun walked back, he follows, still carrying the tray of soup. He felt sorry for Kyuhyun, he won’t be able to do any office works like this, like this when he’s sick, not to mention, flu. So he would just take care of him.

People called for Kyuhyun. His staffs, Vice President Gyuri, Hankyung, Victoria, even Donghae and Eunhyuk who is currently in Japan right now. “Its flu,” He says to Donghae over the phone. “You can’t come inside even if you want to visit,”

“Can’t we just like…stay outside or something?”

“He won’t be able to see you,” Sungmin replies.

“Awwhhh, that’s a shame-what!” Suddenly, he heard Donghae yell in exasperation over the phone and he guesses, he’s arguing with someone at the moment. “Alright just shut up!” Donghae yelled again.

“Donghae?”

“Hyuk wants to know if you’re alright,”

“I’m kinda-“

“Hyuk, he’s fine okay? He said he’s fine, he’s perfectly fine!” Donghae yells to Eunhyuk before Sungmin could finish, with a slight tone of jealousy. Sungmin chuckles.

“Hae, you don’t have to be jealous,”

“WHAT! Who said I am?!”

“It’s pretty obvious,”

“Whatever… just tell Kyuhyun we called!”

“Okay,”

“Bye!” Donghae yells and he purposely slammed the phone back, Sungmin guesses. He’s so childish, he thought while smiling.

The next thing he does, sighing and rolling his eyes, as he looks at Kyuhyun standing by the door when he opened it. “I told you to stay in bed,” Sungmin repeats again.

“I have a presentation,”

“No, stay in bed Kyu, you’re not going anywhere with that flu,”

“You can’t isolate me!”

“I’m not isolating you; you need to get well,” He continues as he walk in, forcing Kyuhyun to walk back in. “If you want to go back to work, rest,” He says seriously and he smiled a little when Kyuhyun was forced to crawl back to his bed though there was a hint of annoyance in him.

He was slightly confused though when Kyuhyun left a space beside him and he tapped it as if inviting Sungmin. “You’re sick too, which means you get to rest too,” Kyuhyun says, surprising Sungmin.

“I’m getting better; you need to rest a lot than I do,” Sungmin protested.

“No, we both are sick, why am I the only one who gets to rest?”

Sungmin sighs. “Alright fine,” He was practically feeling dizzy and it seemed like he could use a little rest, just a little rest for the day and Kyuhyun welcomed him freely beside him.

Sungmin crawled slowly, under the blankets while stuffing pillows beside him. Kyuhyun unknowingly smiled at his practices, like stuffing pillows beside him. He asked Sungmin once why he needs so many pillows beside him, and he explained because he was used to sleeping with orphans before and the kids would pile up beside him, he’s not used sleeping with nothing beside him.

It wasn’t long until Sungmin drifted to sleep and he wasn’t sure how long it has been but when he woke up, it was totally dark and he’s irritated because he feels so heavy, like his fever got worst. “Argh,” He tried to sit up yet he was very dizzy. “Owwh…” He says, trying to clear his vision.

“Looks like your fever got worse,” He heard Kyuhyun by the door and he turns immediately. “Is it alright if I turn on the lights?” He asks.

“No, I’m dizzy,” Sungmin says. “This is your fault,”

“Mine’s gone, yours got worse, which means I’m the boss,” Kyuhyun says, smirking and he approached him, which surprised Sungmin when he saw a tray of soup carried by Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun then turned on the lamp shade and placed the tray on the bed.

“What is that?”

“Soup, duhh,” Kyuhyun replies. “Eat it,”

“You cooked that?” Kyuhyun nodded. “Wait, you cooked? Sure?”

“I did okay? Now eat,”

“Are you sure that can be eaten?”

“Sungmin,”

“I don’t want soup,”

“Sungmin,” Kyuhyun repeats, warning. “Eat, now,” He says, glaring as he took a spoonful of soup and served it to Sungmin, in which Sungmin backed away.

“I don’t want it,” Sungmin says, completely creating a space. “I want hamburger, a coke, French fries and pop tarts,” He says suddenly. “And sundaes, and a milkshake,”

“No, you’ll get sick again. Start small,” Kyuhyun replies with an annoyed face but Sungmin could see his worry. “I’ll go get your hamburger and coke, eat the soup while I’m gone,”

“I don’t want the soup,”

When he was gone, Sungmin took the bowl of soup and threw it on the toilet, then flushed away the evidence of his rebellion. No, he doesn’t want the soup and he won’t eat it. He then walked out of the room and went outside, wanting to breathe in some fresh air. Then he saw the stars, just as lucky as he was, he came across a shooting star and he immediately wished for something. I wish…He murmurs, closing his eyes, wishing selfishly.

Then he felt dizzy again. He decided to go back to bed and wait for his hamburger and coke.

“Did you eat your soup?” Kyuhyun asked him when he got back.

“No, I threw it on the toilet,” Sungmin replies, digging on his hamburger and flushing it down his throat with the large coke, and he couldn’t help but burp. “Now, I feel better,”

“You are impossible,” Kyuhyun says, sighing. “Don’t come out of the bed for awhile, your fever got worse, sleep so you won’t have to relapse,” He adds and he waited for Sungmin to obediently close his eyes and he could feel his deep sleep. Then he went downstairs, dealing with his presentation works and house obligations. Which were, bills, cleaning, yard work and such.

He supposed it was gonna be hard but when he checked them, there was no chaos or things left unattended or undone inside the house. Sungmin had already paid the bills, already cleaned the house and called some people to take care of their yard. He looks on the list and he did it while he was sick.

Then he remembered that Kibum couldn’t come in. He’s been staying with Ryeowook for awhile and he kinda envied how Henry, Kibum and Ryeowook would be sleeping together. Plus Yesung who was ridiculously jealous so he invited himself in and he could hear their cheerful voices with worry over the phone while yelling some senseless things. “Calm down you guys,” He tried.

“Let me talk to him first!” Kibum yells, grabbing the phone from Yesung.

“Hey! This is my phone you dumbass!” Yesung yelled back, and he heard him smacking Kibum.

“You guys, this is my house, don’t ruin my house,” And he could hear poor Ryeowook trying to calm them down.

“Are you guys gonna calm down or not?” Kyuhyun asks, with an irritated tone and Yesung yelled in, replying. “Take turns, you idiots,”

“Hey, how old are you? How dare you not use honorifics on me?” Yesung yells.

“I never used honorifics on you,” Kyuhyun says, sighing.

“Anyway, how’s Sungmin?”

“He’s still sick; he won’t be going up for awhile,”

“Oh, you better take care of him,” Yesung says. “And when is Kibum gonna go back? He’s getting on my nerves,”

“Everyone gets on your nerves,”

“EXACTLY!” He was rather shocked when he heard Henry yelled and that was when he realized, he’s on loud speaker.

He caressed his forehead, not even caring on how childish these people are. He held his phone away from his ears when all he can hear was screams and smacking and curse words, more between Kibum and Yesung then it became Kibum and Henry versus Yesung then at one point, he was relieved when Ryeowook managed to steal the phone away. “They threw it on the air; I managed to catch it,” Ryeowook says.

“I’m worried for you,” Kyuhyun says. “Staying with all those people and all,”

“Its fine, Kibum’s actually cool,” He adds. “I thought was composed but look, he’s wrestling with Henry and Yesungie, and they became so close,”

“I don’t know if that’s good or not,”

“Oh Kyu,” Ryeowook chuckles and it made Kyuhyun smile. Sungmin was right, he does miss Ryeowook. “Tell Sungmin hyung to get well soon, okay?” He continues.

“Sure,” He says and he couldn’t help but smile then he hung up the phone when Ryeowook did. He sighed and he took a step outside the mansion, standing right in front of the door and staring at nothing.

Afterwards, he was alarmed when he hears Sungmin stumbling on the bathroom upstairs and he hurriedly ran and went to see if Sungmin’s alright. Sungmin was throwing up his hamburger and Coke. “I told you so,” He told him. “Now, will you eat some soup?”

“Fuck,” He cursed when he saw his schedule. He was supposed to hold a soiree tomorrow night for the investors. “Fuck fuck fuck,” He repeats and Sungmin threw a pillow at him weakly, warning him of his words.

“What’s wrong?”

“Soiree,”

“Huh?”

“I’m supposed to hold a soiree for the investors,”

“When?”

“Tomorrow night,”

“Oh f-God, you should start preparing now,” Sungmin says, sitting up, only to see Kyuhyun’s worried face. “I can help you,”

“No, you rest, I can handle this,”

“You know you can’t,”

“I can ask some help from Ryeowook and the others,” He says. “Besides, the soiree will be outside, not inside the mansion so they wouldn’t get the flu,”

“Still,” Sungmin frowned and Kyuhyun understood that the last thing Sungmin would want to be was being useless.

“Alright, I can get you to sit outside and supervise,”

Just with that one statement, Sungmin’s face lit up and he smiles at Kyuhyun. “Really? Thank you Kyu!” He beamed cheerfully as he yelled hoarsely, ending up coughing.

Later that night, Kyuhyun gave him a rather decent looking meal. Pasta. What on earth happened that he decided to feed a sick person pasta?  Sungmin was gonna rebel again but he saw how serious Kyuhyun was when he came in, carefully placing the pasta on the bed with the tray.

Kyuhyun sighed, he was exhausted, Sungmin knows, and he doesn’t have the right to complain over anything. “Eat Sungmin, that’s pasta, you can’t turn them down,” Kyuhyun says, wiping his sweat.

“I won’t turn it down even if it wasn’t pasta,” Sungmin replies, smiling at him.

“You learnt your lesson,” Kyuhyun says, smirking.

“No, it wasn’t that,” Sungmin pouts. “I realized that I shouldn’t be taking down your offers of meals because it happens only once in a blue moon,” He continues with a slight hint of tease against Kyuhyun while grinning.

“I get your point,” Kyuhyun glares. “Now eat you stupid kitty,” And Sungmin did, without a word.

Tomorrow came and it was amazing how Kyuhyun have ordered most of the things he needed. What’s more is that Sungmin’s feeling well. “You’re feeling well?” Kyuhyun asked him when Sungmin woke up early and went straight downstairs.

“Kinda…” Sungmin replies and Kyuhyun automatically walked to him and felt his neck.

“Well, I don’t think you have a fever anymore,” Kyuhyun says, smiling. “Well, look at that,”

“I still feel very dizzy, hehe,”

“That’s fine; you can help us in no time,”

Later, Sungmin found himself eating breakfast with Kyuhyun, and almost vomiting though he tried hard to digest the food he ate. Later that noon, his friends started to arrive one by one. Starting with Ryeowook and Henry since both Yesung and Kibum are still busy at the moment.

“MINNIE HYUNG!!!” Ryeowook yells, jumping over Sungmin the moment he sees him.

“Wha-“ Sungmin reacts by hiding the fragile vase behind. “Wookie!”

“Hehehe~” Ryeowook giggles as he took a step back.

“It looks like you guys call do these on your own,” Henry interrupts, sliding his sling bag to his bag.

“Know the word help,” Kyuhyun says, carrying boxes and carefully placing them on a white table.

“What are those?” Ryeowook asks, walking over to him with Sungmin and Henry following and Kyuhyun immediately opened the box when he saw Ryeowook peeking. “Oh, figurines!”

“I didn’t know we have those in the mansion,” Sungmin says, carefully peeking from behind Ryeowook.

“Ofcourse you wouldn’t, these were hidden at the basement,” Kyuhyun replies, chuckling.

“Those look expensive,” Henry murmurs.

“So Kyu, what are we going to do then?” Ryeowook then turned to Kyuhyun, asking him excitedly.

“What did you think?”

“Oh please no,” Ryeowook then frowned...and glared. “Cook,”

“I love you Wookie, you know I do,” Kyuhyun says, his only bribe to Ryeowook to make him cook for him. Works all the time.

“I hate you,” Ryeowook says, glaring and he walked passed by him, straight inside the mansion. Sungmin automatically volunteered himself to help and followed Ryeowook inside.

“And me?” Henry asks, chewing a gum.

Kyuhyun then gave him a box of another set of figurines and ordered him to wipe them, clean and shiny. Henry can’t refuse no more or he’ll have to throw his gum.

When they got in, just when Sungmin was fitted into the mood of baking cakes and cooking food, he just had to look at the calendar and find the date of his mom’s death anniversary…which was also marked as Kyuhyun’s mom’s death anniversary. He frowns again, as time passes by, the more he understood things and the more he’s scared to get too much attached to Kyuhyun’s presence to the point where he won’t say anything about this. He’ll have to tell this to him, anytime soon.

“Sungmin hyung, I thought your fever’s gone?” Ryeowook asks, finally noticing Sungmin spacing out behind him while mixing the meringue.

“Huh?” Sungmin turns to him, completely lost. “Y-yeah, it’s gone…”

“Why do you look so lifeless hyung?”

“Oh…maybe because I still feel a little weak,”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah I’m sure,” Sungmin confirms, smiling weakly as he mixes the meringue weakly also. He looks at the bowl and he couldn’t help but to think deeply again. About everything generally. About how he came into this situation, right now, this instance, where he’s helping Ryeowook, where he could hear Henry’s whines outside, where he could hear Kyuhyun’s scolding. How did he really get here?

He can’t say he was dragged inside because he knew that time he had a choice. He had the chance to choose whether to accept Kyuhyun’s deal or not. And he accepted it, so that fault is in him. He never knew it could go as far as like this.

“Yah! Kyuhyun!” His thoughts were then interrupted when he heard Yesung yelling from outside and Ryeowook ran to the window immediately.

“Yesungie!” Ryeowook yells, waving and smiling widely where Sungmin couldn’t help but smile also. Yesung immediately switched directions and walked in straight to the mansion.

When Sungmin turned to his right, Yesung was opening the door and was greatly welcomed with a hug, a warm Ryeowook hug. He turned away.

“So, what are we doing here?” Yesung asks, at the same time greeting Sungmin with a smile. “Did Kyuhyun ask you to cook again? That useless bastard,”

“Let him be, he’s hopeless,” Ryeowook says, chuckling and he pulls Yesung to the chair where Yesung sits obediently, grabbing some fruits from the bowl placed at the center of the table.

“Ryeowook, is this done?” Sungmin asks, lifting the bowl so Ryeowook could see it.

Ryeowook smiled. “You almost overdid it, yeah, it’s done,” He says, carefully passing the bowl of meringue to Yesung where Yesung gave the meringue immediately to Ryeowook. “Thanks hyung,”

“Sure, anything else I can do?”

Ryeowook looks at him, smiling. “Hyung, you’ve been spacing out, you don’t have to help out here,”

Sungmin then frowned. “What? But-“

“Its fine, I can do this on my own, and you can rest if you want,” Ryeowook says, still smiling and pretty convincing eyes no matter how much Sungmin wanted to refuse and insist in helping. And it also seemed like his body needed a warm breathe of air and peaceful surroundings so he dragged his feet away and out from the kitchen and walked straight to the same away he’s used to and ending up at the same place he’s used to. The garden. It was always peaceful.

He stayed like that. Sitting with his legs clenched to his chest. Opposite of the walls are nothing but empty field because this mansion reaches up until the edge of the city. Sometimes, he would climb up the walls and stare at the empty field, especially when the air is blowing hard and it crashes to the grass making it bend and it looks so amusing just by watching multiple grasses bending together.

He wished sometimes, like the grass, he can go back straight too. He did it wrongly and he wanted to repeat it so he can do it right again. But he can’t, not anymore. This isn’t like plain grass fields.

He wished he never found out. He wished he didn’t have this care in the world. He wished he did this all for money and his heart isn’t that weak to actually developing feelings towards the younger man. He has a lot of things he wishes to happen but it’s impossible, just by thinking about it.

“What’re you doing here alone, Sungmin?”

It was familiar, it was but it was dangerous. He turned around and he saw Kibum, looking at him. He wasn’t disguised as a girl, and Kibum was looking at him. “I…” He didn’t know what to say, how stupid he was to not disguise himself in the first place.

Kibum inched closer, looking up at Sungmin who was sitting on top of the wall. “You think I wouldn’t find out?” He says, smirking.

Sungmin gulped. “S-so…you knew…”

Kibum then lifted his camera from his chest and focused on Sungmin, snapping a picture of him beautifully sitting on the top of the wall as the wind blew harder. He smirks when he was done and Sungmin still wasn’t moving. “Keepsakes,” He smiles and Sungmin stayed dazed and confused.

“Huh?”

“I’ll have to leave soon,” Kibum says.

“Wait, I don’t understand,” Sungmin says, jumping off from the edge and landing safely on the ground.

“Oh that, I wouldn’t really announce this to the whole world,”

“But why? And how did you know?”

“Yesung there just couldn’t keep his mouth shut,” He continues. “We called yesterday and that’s where I found out, he accidentally said ‘sungmin’ instead of ‘sungson’, ask Kyuhyun, he would know,” He adds, hoping to clear Sungmin’s confusion.

“I see,” Sungmin says, chuckling at the ridiculousness of how he found out. “Did you say you were leaving?”

“Yeah, apparently, I got a break from my company, they’re sending me off to Paris,”

“Whoa…” No matter how much he’s happy for Kibum, his thoughts overlapped his awe. This is gonna be bad, he’s gonne be left alone with Kyuhyun. “When are you leaving?”

“In 1 week,”

There isn’t much time left. He thought. Oh how much does God want me to suffer? He asks himself.

“Sungmin?”

“Oh sorry,”

Kibum looked at him, and convinced himself of something he knew at the time he knew Sungmin. “You still need my help?”

“Huh?”

“About your moms?”

Sungmin nods. “Yeah…kinda…”

“I can still help you,” Kibum says, and then he took something from his bag. “Here,” He gave Sungmin a piece of paper along with a notebook with scribbled notes in it. “I got this from the time I stayed with Ryeowook,”

“What’s this?”

“I found out that Ryeowook’s mom and Kyuhyun’s mom were close friends so I was able to ask questions,” He started. “They didn’t mind,”

Sungmin immediately snatched the notebook from Kibum and read everything as much as he could.

Children: 2 (1 adopted). His heart almost sank.
