No, I haven't forgotten about this, I just think I'm not going to make it this year. I still have a lot of cookbooks left to sample and not enough year but don't worry, I'll just continue in 2018 and muddle through (and maybe try not to buy anymore cookbooks...). I'll make it, don't worry.
Anyway, something nice and easy today, because it's Sunday and we all love easy Sundays, right?
Breakfast Power - Gesunde Frühstücksideen für jeden Tag I've been looking for books about porridge and overnight oats for a while now, and I'm an avid fan of breakfast cookbook. I'm not a big breakfaster on weekdays (at least not at home. Going out for breakfast is another thing. I could this all week!) but I love a good long weekend breakfast, no matter if going out for Sunday brunch or lounging around on the sofa for hours (at home, we eat in the living room and the coffee table is more of a dining table both in height and size). So, naturally, I love breakfast cooking book. This one has a nice layout and an interesting range of recipes from porridge to overnight oats to granolas and mueslis and some really nice ideas among them. For starters, I'd wanted to do something easy and fast, so I went with overnight oats. Here we go!
Overnight Oats with Pears and Cranberries
Ingredients
(serves one)
175ml almond milk
Salt
75g whole-grain oat flakes
1/4 pear (ca. 100g)
1 table spoon almonds
10g cranberries
1 tea spoon almond butter
Mix the almond milk with one pinch of salt and the oat flakes in a well closed jar, close the lid and shake well. Put it in the refrigerator overnight.
On the next morning, wash the pear, remove the core and dice a quarter (I diced half my pear, because I really like pear :D), chip the almonds.
Mix the pear pieces and cranberries in a bowl with the overnight oats. Drizzle the almond butter on and sprinkle the almonds on top.
I also added a bit of honey and honeycomb (actual honeycomb ♥) because I'm a bit of sweet tooth :D
All in all, it was a good breakfast meal but I think I prefer my porridge hot. I like the feel of the warm bowl in my hand and the curling steam and the creamy texture of the oats when they're still warm. Overnight oats are pretty convinient and easy to make, so perfect for workdays or taking them to work so I think that's what I'll do with them in the future. For weekends, though, I'll definitely stick with porridge because rrrrrrrrrr, porridge!
