While Mom is forcing me to watch "Van Helsing" (why? WHY does this movie exist? Who looked at the script and thought "Yep, we're gonna pour a lot of money into this. Sounds like a capital idea."?), I can report that for the first time in four years I just sent away an application for an actual grown-up job (I don't think I'm gonna get it since they want to see publications of which I happen to have exactly zero but I guess I have to get back into the game sooner or later anyway, so better start now), so yay me! I'll try and keep you updated on the state of the application.
Other than that, I sent away the paper last week and my advisor said he got it but didn't give me an appointment to talk about my thesis with me. Definitely will have to remind him before Monday, so please remind me anyone?
Oh, also, gardening season is upon us and I managed to keep alive almost all of the plants I took in for overwintering (one of the sages died but the lemon tree, second sage, lemon verbena, Aztec sweet plant, cardamom, peppermint geranium und physalis are still alive *keeping my fingers crossed) and at least two of the ones I left on the balcony for the winter (the blueberry and chive plants seem to be keen on breaking out in song or something...) are making their way back. I also decided against ordering life plants this year. Instead I'll hopefully order a few seed packets next and buy the life plants at the annual spring garden market at Berlin Botanical Gardens in April. I'm kind of afraid of summer because we'll have to move out for two weeks at the end of July so they can demolish the entire staircase and build in an elevator but yeah, I'm still hoping that I'll have found a solution by then.
Last but not least, cooking. I made my first Pinterest recipe this week (
sweet potato fries with parsley and parmesan) and this is how it turned out:
Flavor was awesome (but then, I just really fucking love sweet potatoes) but the crispiness definitely needs to be improved. I'm thinking smaller fries and a baking tray instead of a pan. Will have to try it out again, you know, all in the name of science and stuff. I haven't decided yet what to make next week (Mom seems to take to the whole "let the kid cook once a week" thing, I think) but I'll keep you updated on that. Err, you know, if you want me to, anyway.
So how have you been? Any job developments? Plans for the gardening seasons? Any foolproof recipes you can recommend to someone learning to cook (I'm a lot better with vegetables than with meat, by the way. I'd love to learn how to cook meat really well but I'll also take nice and uncomplicated vegetable recipes)?
