So I meant to post this at least 4 days ago, but that obviously didn't happen. My bad. That means in addition to today's chapter you'll get another one on the weekend. And another installment of Memories.

Chapter 10 )

Read through again, let the paragraphs simmer on my brainpan for all the flavours to come out.

Thor's guilt, and yet, it's the wrong guilt. Or rather, he is assigning the wrong reason to it. Guilty because he 'wronged' people, not his brother, not his golem.

Lovely, though, how you managed to cram that much feeling and care in there, despite that. And how so easy it is to flip it around and see how it ALWAYS applied to Loki. Loki expected to be left behind on the little Jotenheim expidition--it's acceptable to leave him behind, it is not acceptable to leave his friends, real people, behind.

This is not a new behavior pattern from Thor, maybe the guilt is, but how seemlessly he rearranges things in his mind suggests to me that it is not.

I still persist in thinking, hoping, that Thor is going to Asgard to man up. One cannot easily hide the missing Mjolnir after all, especially with how he doesn't have Loki any more to cast a useful illusion.

There was a fic where Thor adruptly realized that he was thinking of Loki as another tool, another weapon to be of use, "Brother" standing in the place of a True Name and becoming a hateful, dismissive thing. That is here, too, in utter truth with no becoming. It always was.
