Club Volvic Music Interview, Part 3 (Oct-26-2005)
Part 3 of 4.
"I'll teach (them) how to put on a show at Tokyo Dome![1]"
Q: This will be your biggest nationwide tour. What feelings are you facing right now?
A: I'm really at my limits, you know[2]. (laughs). Because everything is being done at the last minute[3]. It's my first time performing at Tokyo Dome; I've seen many other artists perform live, including those from other countries, but I've never once been deeply moved (by them). I thought, why is it that everyone can only perform concerts in this way? So, it's like, "I am going to teach (them) how to put on a show at Tokyo Dome![1]" (laughs). Ever since it was decided that we'd do a show there, I've had a vision (of what the concert will be like), and if I didn't have confidence, I wouldn't do it. Rather than telling you the jumble of good points (regarding the venue), you'd understand (better) if you visited (the venue).
"The ones who catch my Volvic probably don't drink it, but just decorate their rooms with it (laughs)."
Q: Your "Volvic throw" during the lives is famous; do you still do that now?
A: Of course, and I'll throw them during this tour too. I've been drinking Volvic for a long time now, and at first I threw them without thinking about it; now, it's become a matter of course. It's not like I'm purposely promoting Volvic (laughs), but I like Volvic, so all the fans drink it too. As I throw the bottle, I wonder how far it will go, and I can throw it pretty far. Once, I threw it up to the third level of the Budokan. During one performance I'll throw about ten bottles, and I wonder if the people who catch it don't drink it but just decorate their rooms with it (laughs).
"Drinking water is good for your health"
Q: Life during the tour is hard; what aspects of your physical condition, such as staying hydrated, do you pay attention to?
A: I usually drink a lot of water. In one day I drink 3 liters, and during a tour, about 5 liters. I wonder if everyone (else) is not drinking enough water. I deliberately drink a lot of water, but drinking water is good for your health, isn't it. Also, during the half-year of touring, I don't smoke. The whole staff quits smoking, and once the whole tour is over, we all look forward to smoking together. It's always that way, but when that time comes, it really hits me that it's over, and I'm sad when it's over. We all smoke together, for our good work. It's like the final ritual[4].
The next update will be on 11/9. Look forward to it!
Notes:
[1] Literally, he says he'll teach them "the way to show Tokyo Dome".
[2] ippai ippai: at the limits of my abilities; on the very edge.
[3] giri giri: cut it close to the limits or bounds; to have no time to spare.
[4] gishiki: ceremony; service; ritual.

Translation of interivew clip:
Q: What will the future “Gackt” be like?
"I wonder what...
Well, I am thinking of looking into those things that I want to express for myself.
And I have no interest in things that (other) people do, in things that (other) people can do.
(The thing that) is found only in me...
I want to look into the world that only I can make.
I guess there is “only one” thing in which I'm interested.”

Translator comments:
I can't wait to see what Gackt comes up with for the Tokyo Dome live. Seems like he's been talking about it forever, and now it's just around the corner. The ones that are going are really lucky~ it's quite an achievement for him to be playing there. I have no doubts it will be technically amazing, and at the same time, deeply moving. Imagine being in a stadium filled with 50,000 dears...
Oh and out of curiosity I visited the Tokyo Dome website to see who else is playing there in December, and I noticed that Kinki Kids are playing, and the name of their tour is "Have A Nice Day". XD XD For some reason I found that really funny. DIABOLOS v. Have A Nice Day~~ XD
I read a comment somewhere out there where the person doubted that Gackt liked Volvic that much. But I don't find it hard to believe that he likes it so much, and that he really does believe in it as a product (see translation of Part 4 for more on that). ^^ I drank a lot of it while in Japan, and it does taste good! XD He didn't throw quite as many as ten bottles at any of the concerts I went to~ more like 4-5. He really tries to throw it far, and you can tell he's always trying to get it to that second level. And is disappointed when he doesn't make it. ^^
I didn't know about his quitting smoking during tours! And his whole staff quits too~ must be quite a challenge for some of them. ^^ It never bothers me that Gackt smokes, it's just something he does; and I always assumed he could quit anytime he wanted to. But it's nice to know he takes steps to keep healthy during the touring season, and that his whole staff follows his lead. :D
I want to look into the world that only I can make.
I can't wait to see that world~~
