I have to say I spent a little too much time this 2nd episode rolling my eyes. I gotta say, I have a certain limit for cheese, and the rubber t-rex suit was WAY over my limit. Akiko annoyed me in the first episode too, including the slipper thing, and annoyed me more in the second.

To clarify: I often dislike female characters. Unfortunately this makes me a hater and a misogynist and whatever in the eyes of the enlightened on the internet, but I think female characters are usually WRITTEN REALLY BADLY and as a woman it pisses me off. If male characters are dumb, irritating or act in incomprehensible ways to serve purely as a plot device, somehow it doesn't irritate me as much... because boys are dumb.

I though the Shotaro/Philip interaction was interesting. I'll keep watching for them, for sure.

The naked dude with the henshin belt was so pure WTF that I probably actually said WTF out loud while watching, in between laughter. That totally balanced out the bad acting of the female baddie and the T-Rex suit and YOH.

In conclusion: Hmmm.

I didn't really mind the T-rex. I mean... yeah, it's really really cheesy, but we've known about it for months, so... I dunno? I knew what to expect going in. :D;;;

(And my impression is that it's still less cheesy than super sentai, for what that's worth, although who really knows since I've seen very little sentai, and what I HAVE seen includes this. And also this Hide sings!!! *_________*. So there you go.

Regarding female character hate in fandoms where slash is prevalent.... well, sometimes it's justified, and sometimes it's really really not, and when it's not, it makes me embarrassed by association. So I hesitate to jump on the OMG FEMALE CHARACTER IS ANNOYING bandwagons because I don't want to come off like one of Those Yaoi Fangirls. But in this case... dial it down a notch, hon, or we'll have problems. >>

The thing with Akiko is in the first ep I found her funny, but after the second ep... I don't know how funny I'd find her in the first ep. Hiyori is the Rider girl I've liked less in the Heisei shows I've watched, but she went down a lot easier because she tended to blend into the background. Other than that I've pretty much either liked or been neutral on all the other girls (I even liked Balde's Amane-chan most of the time), so... it makes me a little sad.

I'd say that's just as stupid as a show where one of the bad guys is a STUFFED OWL, but Stuffed Owl show had the benefit of my favourite actor being in it, so I was grimly determined to watch it no matter what. That said, I had to fast-forward thru most of the "battle scenes" in Boukenger, even if it meant me missing Yasuka say some brilliant line like "EURGH!!" or "It's come back to life!!" Ditto with this episode of W. Ditto with many parts of Shinkenger. I just have a limited tolerance for this stuff, so it reduces the amount of the show I'm going to actually watch. Being a fake boy band is fine, btw. XD

I like to go in shows as innocent as a new-born babe! So I had no idea. This means I spend most of the show a while being utterly clueless.

Anyway. I totally understand what you mean about the yaoi fangirls. It's why when I DO dislike a female character, I tend not to rant and rave about it. I guess I was lucky in that the few toku shows I've seen, I have really liked the female characters - Boukenger had Sakura, who is amazing, and Natsuki, who actually turned out to be really cool even though I thought I'd hate her at first - Decade has Natsumi who I ADORE, and Shinkenger's girls are OK too. I don't get that crawling feeling of irritation that I had, for instance, the first moment I heard the main female character speak in "Koishite akuma" (horrible show, I could only last about 10 minutes... mainly because I knew I was going to hate the main girl and wish for her death throughout. oh and the main guy sucked as well :D)

Akiko... I dunno. I'm reserving judgment, and sometimes my opinion can get totally turned around, but right now she's triggering every "stfu" vibe in my body. I don't like the way she's forced into the plot, either. Granted, I never 100% got Natsumi's initial connection to Tsukasa either, but I'd rather have it like that (fun for fic-writing, if I were to ever write a fanfic, lol) then have it this clumsy "SO WE NEED A GIRL CHARACTER" that's also acted clumsily and makes her feel utterly useless.

I still don't have a Natsumi-kan icon ;.;

Yes, well... Okay, I will say this, it's WAY WAY less cheesy than the first episode of Ultraman Moebius. I love Dai-chan, but... I just couldn't. But I totally get it. :D

Yeah... another thing about the female character dislike is that I'm painfully aware that in the past I used to be a tad wanky. The kind of wanky that would annoy the shit out of me NOW. So I try really hard to... not bash things needlessly, I guess. But yeah, the Kamen RIder stuff I've watched has females characters I've downright ADORED (Natsumi, Misaki and Gon from Kabuto, Mari from Faiz, Mana-chan in Agito, Reiko in Ryuki) and many others that I at least LIKE a lot, and then others that I don't mind. Like I said, Hiyori was the one I liked least, but I would have been as meh on a male character with an equivalent personality, and she WAS an integral part of the story, and.. I liked Tendo and KaGAAmi's interaction with her, so even though I was meh on HER, I didn't mind her presence.

But yeah, basically what you said inthe last paragraph.
