is like asking me why i don't write sonnets. i know the form, and i suppose after a bit of work, i might come up with something decent..
but to assume that anyone who gets up in front of a microphone can immediately slam completely overlooks the amount of work and skill and practice demanded by the form, as well as the special talent and love for the form that the best slam poets possess.
slam is not interchangeable with performance poetry--it is a subset of performance poetry, much as a sonnet is a subset of poetry. yikes--why doesn't everyone just know this already?
so go ahead and ask me to perform--but as far as slamming goes, why not ask someone who is actually does it?
