About the Latest Episode of "A Game of Thrones"

I hated it, and I've loved the show up till now. In fact, I am seriously considering not watching the rest of the show. Not only was this episode WAY over the top in terms of grossness, most of it wasn't even in the books.

The rats scene? Not in the books.

The amputation? Not in the books.

Robb meeting Talisha, the girl performing the amputation? Not in the books.

Tywin Lannister meeting Arya at Harrenhal? It was supposed to be Roose Bolton. And Bolton wasn't the one who recognized that she was a girl; the servants did, and put her in girl's clothes before Arya and Bolton met.

Joffrey torturing the hookers? Not in the books.

Petyr Baelish accompanying Ned Stark's body to Robb Stark's camp? Not in the books.

Petyr making a pass at the newly widowed Catelyn Stark? Not in the books.

Dany being stopped at the gates of Qarth? In the books, one of her scouts found the city and brought back three people of power who were curious to see Dany's dragons. She was INVITED to Qarth!

I can honestly only think of 2.5 scenes that were canon: Arya becoming a cupbearer for a lord at Harrenhal (even though every OTHER detail was wrong); Joffrey ordering Sansa beaten because her brother won a battle; and the birth of the shadow demon. The last one was sickening. That thing didn't look like a shadow when it came out. It looked like it had been flayed and burned. And we didn't have to see it coming out of her body! That's not entertainment!

This episode had little to nothing to do with adapting the books for TV and a hell of a lot to do with making stuff up. To me, it felt like it had gone completely off the rails. And I don't know that I want to watch fanfic that has nothing to do with canon. (I expect HBO to have to re-invent canon for Book 5, but Book 2? A Clash of Kings was a pretty good book. Plenty happened in it.) I do know, however, that I don't want to have to risk seeing rats--I'm phobic about rats and mice--and that the birth scene nearly made me throw up.

Not watching any longer might be a good idea. I haven't decided yet, but it's a serious temptation. I wish that it weren't.
