The Impossible Astronaut

The thing that I noticed about River's speech was that it doesn't fit with what we've seen.

See, she says that every time she sees the Doctor, she knows him more and that every time he sees her, he knows her less. Very sad. Very tragic...

EXCEPT THAT WE SAW TEN MEET HER FOR THE FIRST TIME. She knew all about him then; he knew nothing about her. There is nowhere to go from "knowing nothing about a person" except to "knowing something about her." Eleven has gradually been learning MORE about River, not less. He still doesn't know her well, but they have more and more memories in common.

And we know that River isn't forgetting anything. Her memories seem to be unchanged; the Doctor is slowly catching up with her.

So this lovely, affecting line about a relationship that fascinates me--and River Song is beyond awesome, that is all--MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE. *slaps Moffat with a wet barracuda*

Matt Smith should ALWAYS wear a Stetson. He looks damn good in one.

I loved the Doctor saying, "Brave heart, Canton," because that was always the line that Three and Four used for Liz Sladen's character. "Brave heart, Sarah Jane." So hearing the Doctor say it again made me tear up, just a bit.

The Drippy Faces--which are apparently called "The Silents," according to IMDB--are VERY VERY creepy. Like, the Gentlemen in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. What really bothers me is that they don't seem to have any mouths...except when they're turning people into energy balls and eating them.

The guy who was playing Nixon didn't sound much like Nixon. I remember Nixon having a much deeper and more gravelly voice.

I'm not sure who Canton wanted to marry. It can't have been a black woman, as interracial marriage was legal everywhere in America in 1969, and had been for two years. And in 1969, even considering same-sex marriage would have been pointless, because it wasn't legal anywhere.

I'm guessing that whoever he wanted to marry was either a Communist or a member of a radical left group, and that either way, the marriage would be considered a clear and present danger to the country's security.

I am not thrilled with Amy being pregnant. I'm even less thrilled with Rory being all insecure about how Amy feels about the Doctor. Didn't we already go through both of these stories in "Amy's Choice"? Why are we repeating them?

I heart River for slapping the Doctor in the face. He deserved that SO much.

Overall, it's a win. I love the story; I want to know how the Doctor is going to be saved (and you KNOW he is); I still love the characters; and I want it to be next week immediately.

So, is it time for "Day of the Moon" yet?
