In commemoration, the Chicago Theatre has decided that today is
Talk Like Shakespeare Day. I don't know how well that's going to work, as I know of few people who routinely speak in rhymed couplets and/or iambic pentameter.
I thought that today was St. George's Day as well, but it's not.
Normally St. George's Day would be April 23rd, but apparently it's a movable feast.
According to the Church of England's rules:
When St George's Day [April 23] or St Mark's Day [April 25] falls between Palm Sunday and the Second Sunday of Easter inclusive, it is transferred to the Monday after the Second Sunday of Easter. If both fall in this period, St George's Day is transferred to the Monday and St Mark's Day to the Tuesday.
Well, Palm Sunday this year was April 17. And the Second Sunday of Easter--next Sunday--is May 1.
So this year, St. George's Day is May 2 and St. Mark's Day is May 3. I'd be willing to bet that most people don't know this.
Not that it matters, as
there appear to be a goodly number of celebrations going on this weekend, anyway.
And finally, this is a great weekend for TV. From TV Guide online:
Saturday: Doctor Who (9 p.m. Eastern on BBC America)
"The Impossible Astronaut." Part 1 of 2. The time-traveling trio visit the Utah desert for an adventure that takes them to the Oval Office circa 1969. (Since the Apollo 11 moon landing took place in July 1969, I'm betting the story is related to that.)
Sunday: A Game of Thrones (9 p.m. Eastern on HBO East)
"The Kingsroad." Accompanied by his daughters, Ned rides south to take his place in King Robert's court, but Catelyn remains behind at Winterfell, praying Bran will recover. Meanwhile, Tyrion tags along when Jon Snow leaves for the Night's Watch with his uncle; and Daenerys gets advice on how to please her husband.
