Okay.
So the paper bill for Connecticut Light and Power was for 230.58. And there's nothing I can do about that--there's no proof that the online bill was for 117.30. So today I transferred money some money around. Paypal is pending, and will be for 3 to 4 business days, but the 113.28 that was overdue and that CL&P had started dunning me for has been paid, at least.
Now I just have to worry about how I'm going to continue to pay the electric bill this winter. Because December's electric bill--due in full on December 15--is 287.38.
That's almost three hundred dollars. I honestly think the only way to save money with CL&P is either to give up Anthem Blue Cross (216.27--if I didn't have to pay that, I'd be close to the right amount of money) or turn off the furnace for the winter. Yes, I have donations, thanks to so many of you, and bless you all a thousand times for that...but 287.38 is way out of my budget.
So, with that in mind, I've been checking out various electric suppliers, though.
Here's the list of Connecticut Residential Electric Suppliers. Note that CL&P's charge per month is about 186.18 (not counting 98.64 for delivery charges). The other companies charge between $39.33 (the most expensive, next to CL&P) and $6.48 (the cheapest).
Yeah, I think that a new electric company is the way to go.
I'm also looking into new homeowner's insurance. I've got a quote now for a policy that gives me just about everything that I've got with the present policy for a third of the cost. 47.00 a month is a hell of a lot better than 116.00 to 119.00. I'm still asking questions of the agent, but it looks promising. And affordable. Affordable is GOOD.
As for Anthem Blue Cross, the main issue there is eliminating long-term hospitalization (which I don't think I need at the moment) while retaining co-pays for visits to the Wound Center and to my sometime physical therapist. This one is tricky--I haven't got it straightened out yet.
But I'm trying. I'm trying to find cheaper alternatives to what I have now. And I'm trying to save money. I truly am.
