Friday:
Off at 230 sharp....left the building at 233pm. ran errands. picked up Cormac and drove to bloomington airport. Found out (after Cormac left with my van) that my flight was delayed 2 hours. ugh.
Finally left at the time we were supposed to be landing. Stupid thunderstorms. Came home, talked to dad, went to bed.
Saturday:
Slept in. Went to walmart to pick up some things. Dad bought me some beautiful new shoes for the dressup thing that night. Black close-toe, open-heal shoes with decorative silver buckle and approx 2" tall wide heals. Yes, I walked on high heals. Actually went very well and felt very natural. The heals were wide enough to not cause any major balance issues.
Made lasagna for Sunday night.
Got ready for Saturday night. Wearing maroon velvet skirt, gold and white top, new black shoes, new black shawl that I made that afternoon. Carrying new white handbag that I made in the car on the way there. And wearing, get this, full makeup. Base, eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipgloss. Didn't have mascara.
Got lost in downtown Atlanta b/c every way we could think of to get there was blocked off.
Finally got there. Reception was dull, b/c we knew no one there. Ate very yummy hors-d'ouerves and drank what seemed to me to be an overly strong cabernet.
Reading my mostly local celebrities of works written by southern authors, plus a couple people who sang. Very cool. Amazing, actually. Included a reading by Tony Shaloub and his wife of Mark Twain's "Adam and Eve." Tony's sister is in the local theater group that is the host of the reading. The reading is an annual event called ATLexus.
Went to car, discovered it booted, along with about 4 other cars. b/c the big signs in the lot all say "BE SURE TO PAY AND TAKE YOUR TICKET" and then there's a little tiny sign someone made with a label-maker that says "put your ticket on your windshield." So many did not see it. Guy was pretty nice when he came to take the boot off, though.
Got home, ate a snack, Carolyn and Ryan got home from their trip to FL to visit schools. Meeting Ryan was all of "Hi" *shake hands*.
Sunday:
Got up early, went to two churches, 'cause my dad and the minister make a "circuit" every Sunday. Methodist churches. interesting. Sang "Bread of Life" at both services. Wore high-heals and makeup again.
Lunch at KFC - YUM!!
Went to park. 2 guys out at first, but others showed. Dag, not Amt. They found me an omni and loaned me a punch shield that was heavy, but not too bad. Omni was about as heavy as one of our pvcs, so not horrid. Got shield-kicked by a probably 275-300 lb man. Was awesome. Fought hard. Got one kill, even without people taking lightest-touch. Died a lot. But was so much fun. Worked team tactics - multiple shields, shield and pole, flanking, etc. Then took a HARD face shot. Knocked my glasses off and popped a lens. Glasses and lens landed about 4 feet away. Decided I was done then. Put the lens back in and put my bodice on so I wouldn't fight any more. almost did one more round before dad got back, but didn't. My face felt like it might bruise, but it's fine.
Back to the house, cooked lasagna. Carolyn made salad. I made garlic bread. Suzanne and LaBarron came over. LB is really cool. Only ate one of two pans of lasagna and about one loaf worth of bread (made two). Oh well. Went with Suz and LB back to their house for the night. Beautiful house - all floors wooden or tile.
Monday:
Went to work with Suz. Kinda boring, but the staff were fun to listen to. Ate fantabulous lunch at the Crescent Moon. Had a "Chicken burger" (chicken breast, onion, spinach and bacon ground up and cooked like a hamburger patty, served with sauteed onions and mushrooms) and sweet potato fries. Also went to hancock and walmart.
Back to the house for dinner with Carolyn's dad Bud. He's really really nice.
After he left, I lost my control. Ended up going to my room and crying for a bit. I need someone else here to help shield me from my own emotions. Dad did ask what was wrong. I kinda snapped at him. He seemed to think he deserved it. I'm not sure that's the kind of reaction he should have. It adds to my feeling that everything he does for me and Matt is motivated by guilt rather than love.
Muscles very sore from fighting hard, but they feel good. Sunburn around my neck and shoulders - HURTS. But for some reason haven't been able to ask Carolyn if she has any aloe. Just couldn't.
Ryan found a snake on the driveway. Figured out it was a Southern Ringneck. He brought it inside for us to see. I guess Carolyn's afraid of snakes or something, she kept jumping. I loved it. It was so tiny and cute and pretty. Silvery-black with a yellow speckled underbelly and yellow ring. Pencil-thin and about 10 inches long.
Longest I've seen Ryan this whole trip. He mostly stays in his room and doesn't talk. Oh well. He's 16.
Tomorrow:
Going to Brenau with dad.
