Summer is almost here

On Thursday I was 5 minutes into my run and determined that it was probably a good idea to just do the elliptical instead. First I was having issues with my ankle brace - it was too tight and I had to stop and adjust it twice. And my left knee wasn't hurting, but it felt a bit week. This, combined with the bad right foot, was not the best condition for running. I did do the elliptical for 30 minutes instead.

Friday I opted out of the gym and went for a 2 mile walk instead.

Today I did do my run. It went better than last week. I only stopped twice - once at the 11 minute mark and once at the 21 minute mark - and both times it was just a brief stop (about 15-20 seconds).

Monday:
5 minutes at 5.5 mph
10 minutes at 6 mph
10 minutes at 5.8 mph
5 minutes at 5.5 mph
Total distance: 2.89
Average mile time: 10:23

I had dance class on Saturday morning. This is the first time in a while where I have had more than one class a week. My foot held up well. I just need to not get too complacent and keep up with the strengthening exercises and such so it continues to hold up.

There is a competition in June, but I think I am going to let my teacher know that I am going to take a break from competition for now.

I am also leaning towards skipping the big regional competition in November. It's the week after AT4 and in Denver, CO (which requires a plane trip). I just think I will be too exhausted from all the traveling. And I don't particularly want to shell out all that money for hotel and airfare (and entry fees) when I probably won't be dancing my best (when even my best isn't any where near good enough to place). I guess I am destined to only do the big competition in even years (I skipped 2007 as well).

Another thing is that there is a Firefly con that weekend that the boy wants to go to, so he wouldn't be able to come with me and help out. Besides, I kind of want to go to that con too.

The week before AT4 is the Farscape/Stargate con here in LA. The boy is going to make the hotel reservations. I will just go general admission like I usually do.

So if you guys are following along, you will realize that I have 3 cons in November - the only free weekend is Thanksgiving. I have no clue how I am going to survive. It's especially bad when you figure in the international travel for the second con. At least the other two are local.

The past couple years I've only been able to see my family at Christmas time and I miss going there in the summer and going out on the boat and such. I am considering going to see them Labor day weekend (the first weekend in September) since I have Monday off.

I checked flights and if we take a red eye on Saturday morning (leaving LA at 12:30am and landing in Minnesota at about 6am) and leaving late on Monday night (arriving in LA at about 11:15pm) it's only $199 a ticket! Holy crap! So cheap. Especially for a holiday weekend.

The only thing is that the boy is flying to Missouri (for a convention and to see his family) only 3 weeks before that, so he's a bit worried about money. I might just buy the tickets now and if he can pay me back, then cool, if not, that's cool too. It's really about me seeing my family.

That's the weekend of the MN State Fair too! (the second largest in the country) We won't have to pay for hotel or anything since we can stay with my sister and we don't have to take time off work. The only expenses are airfare and food.

Long weekend coming up. Yay! Half day on Friday and then Monday off.

I think that's about it.
