Vacation Pictures

Vacation was great. We spent a few days doing stuff and a few days doing not much at all. I got quite a few pictures (though somehow, despite taking 200+ I still didn't get pics of some stuff I meant to). So with futher ado I present the pix.

Lignumvitae Key State Park: The only way to get here is by boat. It's quite beautiful. I love Banyan trees. They just look so funky.

Key West: Among other things we visited the Key West cemetary, the Butterfly Conservatory, the Hemingway House, and the Southernmost Point. The Hemingway house is great but I have to admit I was in it for the (many) kitties - I was missing my fuzzies. I got some very nice pictures of butterflies so I present two here. I took quite a few pix at the cemetary as it look nothing like the ones I see up north. In particular I had to get a picture of the one crypt - the stone on the lower right side of the door has the epitaph "I told you I was sick".

Silver River State Park: We ended up finding ourselves in the middle of the state in the middle of the week when we traveled up there so Jim's dad could do a job interview (for a job in the Keys). The place had amazing cabins.

Christmas in the Keys: I didn't get too many pix of Christmas displays. We were only on foot going past a few and I wasn't going to get very good ones while driving past them, which is a shame becasue that means I didn't get many pix of the really "Keysey" ones. But I thought the christmas palm trees and the Key West Key Lime shop were a pretty goos sampling of what I did get.

Last but not least:

Long Key State Park: This is the beach in the park where Jim's dad works.

The poisonwood tree: Nature strikes back. The keys have a tree called poisonwood - it sounds like an uber-version of poison ivy/oak/sumac because it is. I got tagged by poisonwood last year and had a rash on my arms that lasted a week and I barely came into contact with it. So we are walking through the park and some jerk named "Pat" has carved his name into quite a few trees. Which made me laugh when I saw this one - on the tree identified as poisonwood by the plauque directly in front of it. I hope Pat had a fun time with his rash.
