So I have been really enjoying Heroes. I knew that I would like it, but
have been even more impressed that expected.
Don't worry, I have no time to read livejournal, not to mention spoilers so
any potential spec is just that. I just hope that I don't mess up this cut
tag.
Mohinder's angstiness and father issues work for me though it's going to be
a fine line to keep it up without me throwing things at the computer. Daddy
issues basically always work for me (stupid bulletproof kink), and his
unrelenting angstiness I suspect I find tolerable because the actor is
really ridiculously attractive. Damn. I cannot wait for the inevitable
betrayal by the overly convenient elfling. (Dude, she totally has elf ears
and I find her very creepy! Maybe she will turn out to be Sylar - err how
do you spell that - or at least an agent of daddy bennet)
And I love Hiro. I have been contemplating why it is that despite my usual
intense dislike of the geeky sidekick character (read: Xander, Wash, McKay,
though Zack Addy gets a pass because he is adorable and totally has a crush
on Booth), I totally love Hiro. I think that it is because while normally
the geeky sidekick feels some sort of insecurity variant that I find utterly
repulsive, Hiro is just unabashedly and happily geeky. It's refreshing and
fun and I hope that he doesn't develop self-conscious self-deprication/lack
of confidence during his transition to being a badass.
Because dude, he turns into a total ninja! When he first appeared at the
end of 1x04 and started talking, my first thought was 'how the heck is he
speaking english so well?', and then 'dude, he is a ninja! Awesome!' Words
you never want to hear from a dude from the future: "you look different
without your scar." Eek! Seriously, the bending of space and time is up
there as far as best superpowers to have and I am very interested to see how
things progress.
I think that my lukewarm reception of Peter is something that I will be able
to get over. He just needs to get more of a plotline, because the angst
market is cornered by the much more interesting (and pretty)Mohinder. His
assholish brother is at least a more interesting character.
It's interesting how fine the line of person-with-superpowers categorization
is. I mean if you are a hero, you basically have to want to be normal and
be totally guilt driven to help the less fortunate, because most characters
who delight in their powers slide towards villainy. (Which, predictably, of
course I love.) But if you are totally in denial about being different,
then you aren't a hero, you are an asshole. So you have to not want your
powers but acknowledge them enough to use them to help people. Or
something.
I definitely like what they are doing with the character of Claire and I
hope that they keep it up. Clearly, premeditated murder is a step down the
slippery slope, and it will be interesting if they are prepared to actually
have a cute blond teenage villain in the making or if they have that be her
guilt motivator for being the hero. I do have to wonder about the fact that
she doesn't seem to feel any pain as well as being regenerater girl and hope
they don't end up with continuity problems.
Speaking of continuity problems, I have to wonder about the Nicky plotline.
So the last time we know that the evil twin showed herself, the video
equipment didn't record and apparently this time it IS doing so, I hope that
it is not a continuity thing and she just erased it or something. When she
said "if you threaten OUR child again, I will put my heel through your
skull", I was all full of squee. I have no idea why I love stuff like that
so much, but I definitely do. And do you think that Micah is just a smart
kid or it's supposed to be some mutation of his own?
Back to Claire, I thought that the whole hit-to-the-brain thing as an actual
death causer for the ultimate regenerating girl was interesting. There
seems to be a lot of brain fixation: the EEG of Matt (the kidnapped mind
reader dude), the empty mind of the scary dad's sidekick, the carving out of
the brains by Sylar, etc.
Isaac (who in my mind will forever be Eee-sock), definitely fascinating. It
was awesome to be able to see how his future-painting works. The cloudy
eyes were scary as hell. And I definitely love the artwork that they are
using. (Does anyone know who actually does the artwork?) I wouldn't mind
having that apocalyptic painting. It is excellent.
And is anyone else wondering if the scary Mr Bennet dude has doubles running
around? He seems to be pretty much everywhere at once so either teleporting
or doubles seem to be called for.
So yeah. I like this show.
