Hectic Days

I'm feeling a little down. I went to my job interview. I thought it went fairly well. They didn't ask a lot of questions, but I thought I did a good job with the questions they asked. They said they were interviewing five people and would be hiring two. I thought my chances were good, but I got a call later and didn't get it.

It's not that I really wanted that job, but I've been rejected over and over lately and it's disheartening. I try to look at the positive and for every batch of applications I've filled out I've at least gotten 1 or 2 interviews out of it. But then I go back to the negative and I've still been rejected like 6 or 7 times out of those jobs, not to mention the jobs were immediately after I apply I get a rejection e-mail.

It probably doesn't help that today would have been my dad's 72nd birthday.

Anyway...on to the wedding recap.

Not surprisingly the last couple of days before the wedding were really hectic. It didn't help that I made some of the same mistakes I usually make, like not asking for help and waiting to the last minute on things. I waited too long to get programs for the wedding and I ended up buying this downloadable program from Etsy. The only problems with it was I was going to have to cut the programs myself after they were printed out. And when I went to Office Depot to get the card stock the woman who sold it suggested, I couldn't find it. I had to buy a different kind and hope they came out okay and didn't look too cheap.

Unfortunately I had to wait until the next day to print them out. Usually I could print them out in the front room where the printer was whenever I wanted, but Mike's aunt was up for the wedding and sleeping in there. The next morning it took me forever to get it printed out correctly. I had to leave to get my hair done and had to show Michael how to do it. I ended up getting to my aunt's to do my hair later than I should have and she gave me grief about it all day.

I didn't end up getting home until 6 or 7 o'clock. Mike's aunt Deb was the only one there. Mike had gone with his friends/groomsmen to pick up the tuxes and have their "bachelor party" (they just went to get something to eat and hang out.) I couldn't get to cutting the programs because I had to pack and deal with some packages that had arrived (I think the menus arrived that day and a nightgown I'd bought for the honeymoon night.) I had a checklist I used to pack so I kind of did it on autopilot. I vividly remember doing it while watching this new episode of Scandal where one of the characters was getting married to this prostitute he had been sleeping with.

By the time I was done Mike and his friends were back. We chatted for awhile. They were going to find a hotel to stay at but we said they should stay with us. So we took some time to get them settled. Mike conked out right away. I stayed up to start cutting the programs. The first couple came out really uneven, but I got better after a little while. I did that while watching Four Weddings and a Funeral. I only got down with less than half of them before I went to sleep.

The next morning I was the last one up. I had to get to work on cutting more of the programs while also helping to pack up the cars with everything for the wedding. Mike wanted to pick up some more nuts for the wedding favors and get my aunts a give for hosting the rehearsal dinner. I was going to let him go by himself, but he said he wasn't sure what to get them so I had to go, too.

When we got back, it suddenly occurred to me that there was this schedule organizer in my wedding planner where you took a sheet a paper in it and you could make copies to give to all the attendants and everyone else necessary, that would show everything that needed to be done on the wedding day and by whom. So I had to rush and make copies of that.

Even though we probably could have done it, I asked Jean if she could stop by the flower shop and pay for our bouquets. I just wanted to get to the hotel as soon as possible. On the way there my mom kept calling and saying that she was going to be late because they were getting ready at my aunt's house for the rehearsal dinner and no one could give her a ride. My sister had to end up doing it, so they were both late to the wedding rehearsal.

A sign that things may actually work out was that I also got a call that the girl who was filling in for my niece as a bridesmaid had received her dress just that morning. I had been really panicking that she wouldn't get it. Because her mother had to work on the dress, they weren't going to make it to the rehearsal.

When we got to the hotel, it was raining a little and we saw that there was a wedding that was finishing up at the hotel. We talked to the wedding coordinator from the hotel. She seemed harried, but didn't seem sick (that will come into play later.) Since everyone wasn't there we decided to hold off on the rehearsal.

I decided to take the time to give everyone the schedules I had printed out that morning. I also started trying to work on the programs. Jean saw me cutting it and she asked me why I didn't tell her about it because she had a paper cutter. I had no idea she had something like that. This is where talking to people would have come in handy. She said she could do the rest of them after the rehearsal dinner.

Other really helpful people were Mike's friends Sean, Tom, and Mike (or little Mike as they called him.) They kept asking if there was anything I needed done and volunteered to help in any way they could, which was awesome. They found that the schedule thing I had given them all was a little confusing so they got everyone highlighters so they could figure out what specifically applied to them and what didn't. They said they would help with the place cards for the tables and putting together the wedding favors.

I think we ended up waiting for over an hour/hour and a half for everyone to get there. Little Kaiden and Emma were introduced, which was so cute. They had a little time to play together. I saw my old friend Sarah for the first time in years, which was a little awkward. I didn't know it, but she must have still kept in touch with my sister because they were super chummy instantly and she seemed to know Kaiden pretty well.

Because it was raining we had to do most of the rehearsal indoors, which didn't really help with figuring out how best to naturally do the receiving line. Emma and Kaiden had a little trouble with their instructions, but did mostly okay.

We got done and finally got to go up to our room. The room was pretty basic, but pleasant enough. We hurriedly changed. Jean complained that because the rehearsal went so late that she would be late to the dinner because she had to go over to the RV site where she, Amber, her kids, and Greg would be staying in their camper. I told her she could just go in what she was wearing, but she insisted.

As soon as we got there, everyone said that I had messed up the address to my aunt's house that was on the rehearsal dinner invite. I apparently was off by one number. I was sure I had written it down correctly since Mike and I had used that address the year previously to go over to her house for Thanksgiving. Thankfully, the one number didn't affect things too badly since everyone made it.

It was still raining so everyone had to be huddled inside. My mother and aunts outdid themselves with the food. There was a huge variety of food there. Other than being told about my mistake with the invites, the first thing that happened was that Mike and I got lei'd. The lei they made even matched my dress.

My mother dragged me upstairs to meet my bridesmaid Christina and see how she looked in the bridesmaid dress. It was a little awkward, made even moreso by the fact that the thigh highs Jean had bought me were not staying in place and I kept dropping down to my ankles and I kept having to pull them up (eventually I had to just take them off completely.)

I kept running around trying to give everyone their gifts. I ended spending a lot of time trying to find the earrings I was supposed to give to Cristina so she could wear with her dress at the wedding. At the same time my aunt was trying to corral everyone for pictures. I didn't end up finding the earrings until the next day.

The food was great. We took a lot of nice pictures. Everyone started to trickle out after a couple of hours. I wasn't sure what to do. My sister had said she might put something together for me, a little shower, after the rehearsal dinner, but she hadn't said anything to me about it. Mike said that he and the guys needed my help with the favors and table place cards, so eventually I ended up leaving.

I think I posted last year the Sunday before the wedding I got completely overwhelmed in a store and started crying while I was trying to pick out stuff for the wedding favors. I got these nice looking purple boxes. I'd never really looked at them that in depth. When we went to start on putting the boxes together we realized we not only had to put the body of the box together, but there was also a lid we had to assemble to. We all had an easy enough time putting the box together, but had difficulty with the tops.

We ended up running out of nuts, so Tom and Little Mike went to get some more, while we filled out the place cards for the tables. By the time we got done with everything I think it was close to 1 AM.

Mike went to sleep soon after, but I stayed up a little later because I still had to work on my vows. I'd basically done like an outline for my vows, but hadn't put the whole thing together. I stayed up for a half an hour working on that before finally going to bed, looking at Mike one last time before I would see him the next day at the altar.

Like I said, I still haven't gotten the pictures from the rehearsal dinner from my aunt. The only pic I have was one Mike took on his phone.
