a fanboy presents.. a Fanboys update.

The more I read about this film, the more depressed I get. It seems that the director, Kyle Newman, was fired from the project when the distributors (and I use the term loosely - they've sat on this film for the last 18 months or so), The Weinstein Company, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the film needed some reshoots and various plot changes. Chosen to replace Mr Newman? Steven Brill, the man who brought you such classics of cinema like.. um.. Little Nicky and Without A Paddle.

As well as this, the entire 'we need to see Episode I before our friend dies of cancer' subplot has been excised completely. According to the vast source of conspiracy that is the internets, the test audiences voted the new version of the film a mere two points over the old one (not quite sure how many 'points' in total we're talking about, but there it is) - despite rumours of 'plants' in the new version's screening. I'm guessing this may be the same group of 'plants' who told George Lucas that the SW Special Editions roll-out was a good idea. It does raise the age-old question, though: why even go through the rigmarole of getting so-called test audiences if you're going to fix the result anyway?

If you're interested in Star Wars or just good and unaltered moviemaking in general, I urge you to click the banner below and find out more about the travesty that is the new version of Fanboys.
