geeks! help!

My son wants to have a "computer programming" themed birthday party. He is autistic and I'm honestly not sure he even knows what he means, but I'd like to make an effort. But WTF am I supposed to do with that? I did see a cool cake decorated like a Mac laptop, but I am otherwise without clue. Any ideas?

One way that I have taken the stress out of birthday cakes for my kids is to hit Ebay and find edible images. They come in many shapes. I have purchased them for cupcakes, sheet cakes, and round layer cakes. As long as you plan ahead, you can even send them an image and have them print it out for you. Don't get the ones done on rice paper. I have had trouble with them not dissolving properly into the icing. Put them onto the icing at least 12 hours prior to the party and they will become part of the icing ( ... )

You're right, I always overstress and try to do too much, far more than any kids need.

I would see if you could get your hands on the old dot-matrix printer paper, the green-and-white lined stuff. Make the invitations out of that, using Courier font on your printer?

Or if you can't find it, make paper look like it with an easy paint program on MS Word.

And to be reeeeally geeky, but might be too old school? Give out pens in pocket protectors as favors?

Another favor idea: computer-shaped stress balls: http://www.discountfavors.com/stress-balls-relievers+computer-stress-balls.html (I'm guessing they can be found cheaper using the Google)

Decorations: Hmmmm....more dot-matrix printer paper as a banner? If you have a light-brite laying around, make it look like an old-school server?

I'm sorry if most of my computer programming ideas are dated. You would thinking working in IT now would help, but...this is what pops in my head.

My husband had already thought of doing banners with the paper -- my son wouldn't get it, but all the geeky grown-ups (i.e., all of them ;-) ) would enjoy it. Don't know if we can find it, but replicating it might be possible.

Stress balls sounds like a great party favor, will check them out.

Since my son loves math, I'm thinking of getting these: http://www.zazzle.com/computer_humor_sticker-217740838858466386
