Drabble: 'Jack Peacock' (J/E - G)

Sep 25, 2009 11:55

More fluff with Jack, Elizabeth, and her son, a double drabble for the current challenge at blackpearlsails...

~ Jack Peacock ~

"Uncle Jack, why do you black your eyes?"

Elizabeth looked up. Jack was applying his kohl at her dainty gilt dressing table, an amusingly incongruous sight, but he paused and glanced at Jamie's curious face, reflected in the mirror below his own. "Told you, lad, it protects me eyes from the sun."

"But it's night time now."

Brought by the lee, Jack adjusted his course. "Aye, so it is. But your mother and I'll be at this soirée 'til the wee hours, savvy? And what if something happens, some horrid disaster that calls us away to the Pearl and out to sea, a tidal wave, or a sea serpent, or a pack of ruthless, blood-thirsty savages set to attack the Cove, and we're out the rest of the night and all day tomorrow in the merciless glare!"

Jamie's eyes had grown wider and wider through this speech, and now he clutched Jack's coatsleeve, clinging. "You won't leave me? Don't leave me here alone! Please? Please?"

Elizabeth burst out laughing.

Jack's own dismayed eyes found hers. "What now?"

She rose, grinning. "Well, I'm going to the party. You can stay and try to explain the concept of vanity to a four-year-old."
