I had something that resembled a weekend! I worked on Thursday, but that was scheduled overtime (even though it changed a bit after a mistake was discovered). But, mercifully, I was left alone on Friday and Saturday (thank you God). I actually got to do some stuff, catch up a bit.
Ok, so one of the things I did was go to a spin class on Friday morning. I would suggest that this class be put in the Geneva Convention under the "torture" category, under the subsection of "Butt/Genitals Torture". The workout was great, but then there was the bike seat, which is made either of concrete or some dense nebulae material that fell to earth. Either way, I have the bruise of a bike seat somewhere down there. I can feel it every time I move, but I can't see it. If I continue to take this class without a gel bike seat, I shall form a callus in a very sensitive area. I was actually doing better standing up, although lifting my bulk and standing while pedaling is a torture unto itself. Michelle did great, and kept up with the whole thing. I needed a few breaks in there to catch my breath and to get the feeling back between my legs. One does NOT want to lose feeling there.
We then stayed for the pilates class given by the same instructor, who is possibly an alien from the planet Fitnessfreak. That was fine, but there were a couple of things I couldn't do. For the life of me, I cannot do a situp. I have always had trouble with this, even when I was thinner. I was totally cheating and helping myself up with the edge of the sweat-covered mat I was using. Sandy kept laughing at me. I was supposed to lower myself gracefully to the ground after sitting up, but I lack grace and dignity even in the simplest of tasks, so I landed with a thud after every fake situp. I needed a very long shower after two hours of working out, but it felt good in the end (not in the end, my end didn't feel so good, you know what I mean).
The rest of the day was spent in idle, with me stopping at JC Penny and buying some pants and a couple some workout clothes. I also bought went looking for a new printer at Best Buy, but they have crap for printers. I then spent the evening just laying around, which I truly needed.
On Saturday, I went to Antiques Roadshow, which was fun. It was very well organized, and I was in and out of there pretty quickly. The items I brought belonged to the parents, and unfortunately weren't worth a great deal. It was fun anyway to see what other folks brought. The guy next to me in line for the Asian Arts table had a nifty little samurai sword, small enough to be easily concealed or worn on the belt. The lady who was appraising it said it was worth between $3000 and $10,000. The guy didn't even know what to say.
You can't really stick around, so I grabbed some appaiser's cards and took off.
I ended up going to Office Depot and finding a printer that I wanted and got a deep discount on it due to it being discontinued.
Ok, news flash: I cooked myself dinner. I don't mean I nuked something or ate a sandwich. I mean that I baked myself some chicken. I was watching Everyday Italian last week and saw Giada making this really tasty looking balsamic honey chicken. I got all the stuff and made it, and it turned out great! It tasted awesome and was really easy. Keith is in Carson City so I used the time to try it out. I will say I did make a bit of a mistake..heh heh. You marinate the chicken in balsamic, honey, soy, brown sugar, garlic and rosemary and then you reserve the marinade when you put the chicken in the oven. You the boil it on the stove for a few minutes then simmer it for about 15 minutes after that. Well, I was letting it come to a boil and went to the bathroom for literally 45 seconds. When I came back out, the entire thing was boiling over on to the stove, underneath into the burner pan and under the burner pan. It was a big mess. But the glaze was successful regardless. I had plenty left to coat the chicken when it came out of the oven. I will also say that the trick you see on FoodTv where they smash the garlic with the flat side of the knife works great. I easily peeled the garlic when I whacked it first. All that FoodTv knowledge is coming in handy. :)
I will never be Giada or Paula Deen, but I bake good cakes, and hopefully can cook a few more meals for myself. I won't cook for Keith because he's too damn picky and doesn't like anything except steak, pizza, mac and cheese, nachos from Outback, dry cereal, sunflower seeds, popcorn, hot tamales (the candy) and french fries (and the onion rings from Lucille's which he can inhale). The few times I tried to make him a meal, he didn't like it. He won't even try my Kahlua cake because it has sour cream in it. I told him he wouldn't taste the sour cream, but he won't touch it. I don't think he's ever eaten a piece of the chocolate Hershey's cake that I bake, and that doesn't have sour cream in it. Oh well. I have to make it up to him somehow for my poor wife skills :)
I'm back at work now, and have 13's this week again, but at least I feel a bit better. I fully expect something to happen by the end of the day to put me back in a funk. LOL. It never fails.
Until later.
