So you'll remember that I was making a whole heck of a lot of Doctor Who scarves. Here they are, the finished results!

I totally want scarf C. How long is it?

It's long enough to wrap around your neck a couple times. It's exactly half of a normal Baker scarf, which I think is 18 feet? So that would put it about about nine feet. (Can you tell I haven't quite gotten a measuring tape yet?)
Knitting-wise, it's 512 rows long.

yikes... that is way too long for me, and way too hot for the mild new mexico winters here. how much to commission a scarf that is more like 4 feet-ish? (I can measure my two fave scarves, that are just the right size, to be sure)

For just a little scarf like that, 15 for labor, plus yarn and shipping. I don't think the Tom Baker pattern would fit into a scarf so small, but we can do anything custom-made! As you can see, I'm now able to do pictures too. For scarf-wearing in hot conditions, maybe you'll want one that is not so wide, and done with a loose stitch, to let air in. Just lemme know what you've got in mind!

(On a side note, I clambered out of bed to measure Scarf C against my own height... looks like it's more like 6 feet.)

It's just that I am also short and don't weigh much, so a lot of fan-made scarves are like a blanket to me, lol.

Let me get out my two faves and see here.... okay, my fave-fave is 59" long by 9" wide but is also very very thin (1/10th of an inch or so). So would a 5footer be possible? About how thick is the scarf? I own one that is maybe 1/4th of an inch thick so I had to ask the maker to cut it down to 4feet (as you can't cut the width down lol).

For a person my small size, in the rarely-harsh winters here, it's all about balance when it comes to scarves lol. But since I don't own a real winter coat (impossible to find one that fits me! in comfort) I do depend on my scarves a lot during the winter.

You can totally cut down the width! It's all a matter of how many stitches are in each row! The doctorwhoscarf.com website says that the original scarf was 66stitches across, but when I did that it came out much too wide. So I've got Scarf A and Scarf B at 42 stitches across, and I think Scarf C is 35 stitches across.

A five-foot scarf is definitely possible. The question is, do you mean a five-foot Baker scarf? If I'm following the pattern, I like to keep it proportional. Here's an idea, you could pick a scarf from Season 12 that ISN'T from "Robot," as they cut out some sections of the scarf after that episode, and started to stretch the ridges apart. I'm really not that great at measuring without a ruler, so it's hard to say how thick those garter ridges are.

and doh! keep forgetting to ask the most important question yet, since you seem to be the person to ask! :D ... i know that the older Who is very popular with the scarves, so whatever happened to even at least a simple scarf with the new Who? i think i vaguely recall David Tennant wearing one, in maybe one ep? what gives?

I can't tell you much behind the motives of the writers, directors, and actors. My best guess would be that they're trying to put a good distance away from Baker so as not to make it too permanent of a thing.
