Battle Shield for my Viking wife Sheri and son Lars

I built the shield for two different costumes; when my wife used it we had an antique cross mounted to the front, but that did not hold up well, so when my son the barbarian used it, he opted for me to paint a skull.

Parts needed:
one wooden plywood disk
2 boxes of furniture upholstery tacks
can of flat black spray paint
a few small wood screws
an old leather belt
white paint and a brush

I sketched the skull freehand in pencil, then painted it.
Use a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the tacks as you hammer them in around the edge.
cut the leather belt in three pieces, with one end tacked in place fit the straps to the arm size. Use the belt buckle to tighten the strap closest to the elbow, and the one nearest the hand is a hand-grip. Use wood screws for strength.

Re-enforcing the straps with wood screws made it tough enough to play with rather than just ornamental.
