So, DCist tells me that the
HFStival lineup has been announced, and I get an overwhelming sense of "So what?" Counting Crows headlining? Are they still around? (Apparently so if they're appearing, but who knew?) On top of the generally underwhelming lineup, tickets are $45 for the lawn and $100 for the pit -- per day. Sheesh. No thanks. Others I mention below are more expensive, but there are actually a bunch of acts I want to see.
Then there's
Bonnaroo, which unlike HFStival actually looks like something I'd shell out $185 for three days for (assuming I still can). Radiohead, Tom Petty, Beck, Elvis Costello, Oysterhead, Bonnie Raitt, Death Cab for Cutie, moe., Bright Eyes, Bela Fleck, Cypress Hill, Buddy Guy, Ben Folds, Sonic Youth, Matisyahu, My Morning Jacket, Nickel Creek, Gomez, Steve Earle, Blues Traveler, The Dresden Dolls, Son Volt, Rusted Root, Devendra Banhart, Mike Doughty, Sasha, Seu Jorge, Shooter Jennings, Devotchka (*squee!!*), Marah...and those are just the acts that I know I'd like to see. (Granted, it's most of them.)
Let's not forget
Coachella, which seems to always have a fabulous lineup. This year is no exception, but for some reason I'm not dying to go even with Sigur Rós, Massive Attack, and Imogen Heap.
So far
Pitchfork has got the Mountain Goats, Yo La Tengo, Devendra Banhart, and Mission of Burma. I guess I'll keep an eye on this one, especially since the prices are much more reasonable than any of the others. Haven't been to Chicago in a while. And about a week later, there's...
Lollapalooza? Okay, this could be fun: Kanye West, Wilco, Death Cab, The Flaming Lips (*squee!!*), The Shins, Matisyahu, Ryan Adams, Sonic Youth, Thievery Corporation, Nickel Creek, Blues Traveler, The New Pornographers, Iron & Wine, Poi Dog Pondering (speaking of "they're still alive?"), Panic! At the Disco, Stars, Calexico, Nada Surf, Feist, The Go! Team, Mates of State. $130 for three days, not terrible. Less than Bonnaroo, and no camping. On the other hand, no camping == hotel cost on top of tickets.
Then there's the whole folk festival circuit. Edmonton has actually announced a few names already (!!), including Feist, Baka Beyond, and Bruce Cockburn (*squee!!*). Unless they somehow manage to snag the Oysterband again though, I think my expensive festival choice for the summer right now would have to be Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza.
