TV commentary:

Teenage Bounty Hunters- Just finished Teenage Bounty Hunters, and I'm going to need this show to have a 2nd season. I'm a little worried, since it doesn't seem to have as much buzz going it debut weekend as Never Have I Ever, Warrior Nun, or Cursed. Its saddled with an unfortunate name, which probably makes people think its one kinda show and making them shy away from it.

But I really enjoyed it, it is a good mix of comedy, procedural, and teen drama. Like the closest parallel I can think of is maybe Veronica Mars, but slightly less serious? But only a little. I mean, Blair and Sterling's weird telepathic twin conversations make things kinda fanciful. But otherwise the show isn't too out there.

Anyways, so much to unpack in the last half of the season, and I'm going to be really disappointed if that's where it ends! Where to begin?!

First, lets talk about the April/Sterling thing, because I loved how that developed! How you get to the root of April's animosity. I mean, a lot of shows do the whole, "Oh, they used to be friends, but internalized homophobia or newfound popularity or both caused them to drift apart." But I like how they were specific. The way April tells it, Sterling "gave her away". Like how one day, Sterling just dragged April to Jessica and was all, "she's in your group now!" as if Sterling was being all, "Seeya loser, these are more appropriate folks for you to hang out with, not the cool kids like Blair and me!"

But that's not the way Sterling remembers it. She just thought they grew apart. And if you listen to April's story again, I think this is what happened- as she says it, Sterling, Blair, and the others were playing soccer, and April, not being athletically inclined, chose to sit by herself and study while they were doing that. Now April prolly didn't want her to be alone, so she took her to Jessica so she wouldn't be alone, that she'd have something to do while they were playing soccer. I don't think she ever intended for them to no longer be friends, and when April stopped hanging out with her, she probably thought April just drifted away because she had something more in common with Jessica's group.

Of course, as we hear later, when April crushes, April crushes hard. She probably had a thing for Sterling, and took at it as a personal affront that Sterling "gave her away". She felt rejected, and responded by hating Sterling back.

But fuck, then it all blows up later, because April is unwilling to come out because she's afraid of what her family would think. And I know Sterling is hurt, but she has to understand, while her family would probably be totally understanding, April's dad won't. After all, he was the first actual skip Blair and Sterling went after on purpose, for beating up a prostitute. So he if he doesn't like the gays, he's shown himself to be a violent man.

And its funny how that first skip does fuck things up. Now, April doesn't know its Blair and Sterling's fault that her dad got arrested. So 1) That's definitely going to cause issues later and 2) it already caused issues because part of April cooling off was because her dad asked about them, and April was worried that it was because her father sniffed her gayness out and that they're involved, not that they beat him up and took him to jail.

But yeah, because April has gone fully back in the closet, Sterling and Luke kiss, because as she says, its easy. He loves her, so everything would be drama free. So I want to see how all this stuff plays out. And it will no doubt be complicated by the fact that Sterling is Dana's daughter, and the twins are really cousins.

Getting to "the brown haired one", I don't think Sterling was wrong when she told her sister that she needs to create drama. Because honestly, there were a lot easier ways to handle things throughout the show that wouldn't have led to as many problems as they ended up having. But wow, things blew up spectacularly with Miles. First she avoids him because she thinks he's a dork. Then when she actually likes him, she's worried about the economic difference, not realizing he's actually way richer than her. And then when she tries to be all in with him, she finds out Miles has been hiding her from his family.

But Miles was right in that Blair needs to find herself. And its funny that she tells Sterling that she likes Miles the way Luke likes her, because Luke is kinda an idiot. A well meaning one, but the comparison shouldn't be one to strive to.

Like if they have another season, I'd like to see them circle back to the music thing. Because they had her pretend to be an aspiring pop singer trying to get that one skip, and she actually does pretty good. But so many other things happen, her breakup with Miles, figuring out her mom's secret, etc, that that falls by the way side.

Anyways, as said above, the twins are actually cousins, and I liked the nice touch of Debbie and Dana also doing the secret twin conversation thing, and Debbie quickly figuring out that Dana was going to blurt out Sterling is actually hers and kinda blowing up everything. Not to mention, its probably going to come out that the girls have been working with Bowser as bounty hunters when they really talk about how Blair found Sterling.
