TV commentary:
Black Lightning- Finally! Jennifer finally has powers, accidentally frying her phone when her friend slips and falls off some scaffolding. Her friend is fine, but the scare kickstarted her powers. But argh, she does go to Anissa pretty much immediately, so no having to sit through another few eps of hiding things like her sister did. But it happens at the end, so we don't get to see Anissa's reaction or show her own powers or tell Jen their dad is Black Lightning.
Anissa's training is going well, so much so that it actually gives Jefferson pause because his daughter has good instincts. They had found the weapon used to kill Lady Eve (and the killer!) buried in the woods. Which talk about a bunch of ingrates the people of Freedland are! Everyone thinks Black Lightning killed Lady Eve and now they're all shit talking him and asking he be brought to justice. Anyhow, Jefferson calls Henderson and tips him off to the evidence exonerating him in the woods.
Only, someone may have intercepted Henderson's dispatch, because they send a plain clothes guy, possibly a cop, to check the scene first, prolly to sanitize it. Only, Anissa realizes the guy is some expendable nobody who got sent and didn't realize what was there. Indeed, she barely manages to figure out the idiot just set the weapon to self destruct and narrowly save her dad from getting blown up with him. And he's like totally proud at her quick thinking.
But, alas, that happy feeling doesn't last. Lynn's investigation into the white powder is hitting dead ends, because the lab she sent the sample to also got "robbed" and the sample stolen and the computer system "accidentally " corrupted. Luckily, something did survive and she learns it was a vaccine. But its been so long ago its hard for her to find what companies or research it could be connected to.
Jefferson tells her to check with Gambi since he was around back. And look at Lynn who in less than a minute of Gambi being evasive and realizing he just happened to show up at the same time as the vaccine was being administered figures out that something's up with him. Gambi promises to reveal all to Jefferson. And so she tells her husband he needs to talk to Gambi.
And we get some huge reveals. Gambi worked for an agency called the ASA, and came to Freedland to oversee distribution of a "vaccine" that was really a experiment to make the population more docile during a politically charged time. But, it was turning people into Metas or killing them. And Gambi couldn't stand for that, so he leaked stuff to Jefferson's father Alvin. Unfortunately, the ensuing investigation got Alvin killed. So Gambi felt guilty and once young Jefferson started developing powers, went to guide and protect him.
But he can't protect him anymore- Lady Eve's death was too big. Not sure if she was still working for the ASA, and her whole drug empire thing was more of the same experiment, just using drug distribution instead of a fake vaccine. Gambi tries to be all, "Maybe if you just capture Black Lighting..." (which points to the ASA not knowing he and Jefferson are connected), but his ex-boss says they've studied and dissected(!) enough Metas, so its NBD to them.
But Black Lightning is a big honking piece of evidence of their previous study, so Gambi's ex-boss wants info on where Black Lightning is, so they can kill him and cover things up. Gambi lies to protect his friend. He's still trying to protect Jefferson by telling him to not go out again. But Jefferson can't do that. And now he just doesn't trust Gambi after all the secrets and lies and accidentally getting Alvin killed. So they're on the outs.
Other stuff, Lala continues to see Lawanda's ghost. Its weird, because he wanders around in public, alive, and bumps into former members of his crew. He's acting like he's still in charge, despite the rumors he was in jail and/or dead. So he has them take him home, and has a conversation with Lawanda in the car, but the other guys don't see him. I guess its odd because she seems like a figment of his imagination, but its weird she also can turn into smoke and become a tattoo on his chest, pointing to her not being imaginary.
