TV commentary:

Luke Cage- Caught the first two eps on Netflix so far. Its pretty good. Its interesting, because while this is definitely post-JJ, and we've met Luke and know he has powers, these eps still manage to have an "origin" feel to it. Like we've already met Luke the man, this is definitely the start of Luke the hero.

Heh, I saw someone make comparisons to Spiderman's origin story, and it is kinda similar. Instead of Peter refusing to stop a robber to get back at some guy who refused to pay him, Luke sees a young co-worker about to do something shady and just lets it go. He's trying to keep a low profile and although he's concerned and disapproves, not enough so that he's going to try and knock some sense into this kid before he does something he'll regret.

And sure enough, the dude and his friends freaking rob an important gun deal for the head Harlem gangster (Cottonmouth) one of them works for. To be fair, the kid Chico, definitely didn't sign up for killing people and realizes the shit he's in after everything goes down. So when the shit hits the fan, Luke's "Uncle Ben", Pops, pushes Luke to find him before Cottonmouth does. Pops, Cottonmouth, and Chico's dad go way back- Pops went to jail but turned his life around, Chico's dad Wilfredo became a druggie, while Cottonmouth became the man on top. Pops thinks he can negotiate for Chico's life since his place is considered Switzerland and Cottonmouth respects him enough.

Luke is hesitant at first, but Pops finally calls in his favor for keeping Luke's secret and letting him lay low at his place. So Luke does, acts as go between between Pops and Cottonmouth. Things should be good, its just too bad one of Cottonmouth's men gets too big for his britches and goes after Chico and the money, thinking he'll get rewarded for his initiative. So Pops bites it- the comparison to Spiderman I heard was like Peter, if Luke intervened in the beginning rather than thinking its not his problem, its possible this whole mess could've been avoided. The robbery might not have gone down, or rather Chico wouldn't have been involved, negating the need for Pops to intervene.

So Pops' death inspires Luke to stop hiding and staying on the sidelines, and use his abilities to fight the bad guys. To his credit, Cottonmouth is incredibly pissed and tosses his overly eager henchman off a roof. Because there's a code on the streets, and you don't just shoot a man like Pops. I mean, when he even first heard the news from his thug, he didn't even imagine anything happening to Pops. He was all, well, I'll donate some money to Pops to smooth things over, help him rebuild his shop. So when he hears his man just dropped everyone in the shop, needless to say Cottonmouth is beyond livid, hence the casual tossing off the roof.

Also interesting about the MCU is that Misty is all, "How did he shield the boy and not get hurt?" Since this is a world with the Avengers, I presume once she finds out about Luke, it'll be easier for her to swallow. I'm kinda curious if the cops are supposed to like question folks like him per the Sokovia Accords and get him to register or something.

But heh, I wanna say in these first two eps they've squeezed more MCU references than the other Marvel shows have done in entire seasons. We get Turk from Daredevil, references to the Avengers and the incident in the first movie, they even work in a freaking Justin Hammer reference!
