Finally saw Gone Girl. So I guess I've seen almost all of Fincher's movies except for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Game now. Anyways, Gone Girl was actually pretty good.
I mean, its kinda hilarious what an evil, devious psychopath Amy is! Like she came up with an incredibly good narrative to frame her husband, and then when she ends up getting robbed when she's on the run (I like that touch, that she's not this perfect villain, and that a couple of low rent thugs could get one over on her) and goes to Desi for help, she manages to come up with that quick frame up in a matter of days.
And she knows how to play the victim well, so when Boney (you know, I actually didn't recognize Kim Dickens at first) tries to poke holes in her story, she's shut down by the Feebs real quick.
What I most love though is the portrayal of the media though, and how fickle they are. Like they really drag Nick through the mud. I mean, Nick is kinda a moron, like could he make himself look anymore suspicious?! But still, fake Nancy Grace was vicious! Seriously, when they started implying that he and his sister were a little too close, I like shouted at the TV with incredulity! Like really, what the shit?! That was too much, the depths the media would go to try and villainize him.
And then when Amy "escaped", it was Desi's turn to be thrown under the bus, to be portrayed as this rich boy stalker who takes whatever he wants and kissing Nick's ass and turning Nick and Amy into America's couple, rising from adversity.
But wow, boy is their kid going to be totally fucked up. I mean, Nick is all, I have to stay with Amy, I have a responsibility! And while I'm not advocating he just take off and abandon his child, he has to know that kid is freaking doomed. I mean, its dad is kinda an asshole, its mom is an insane psychopath, and they both kinda resent each other. And the last one is the worst of all I think. Like the first two are pretty bad, but I would think the parents pretending they're this totally, normal happy couple when the kid KNOWS (c'mon, kids aren't as dumb as they think, they can suss these things out- they might not fully understand it at the time, but they know when something is wrong) they're not would drive it freaking crazy.
