TV commentary:

Dexter- Well that ep was full of awkward. Like Dexter's date with Haley James Scott. He ends up looking like the most boring guy ever, making her look awkward. I understand he's supposed to be a psychopath, so he has trouble with this sort of thing, but the boat thing was ridiculous. He drives it out there, then drives it back? Yeah, he obviously needs to leave out the "disposing of dead bodies" thing, but he could've made up some bullshit about how being out in the ocean gives him feelings or something. Even though it seemed like he was just doing all this to humor Jamie, he does seem hurt when neighbor lady starts seeing someone else.

Then there's Deb's boss' obvious crush on her. He asks for her help to expose some creep who's dating his sister, and she decides to use herself as bait (let's not forget, she started in vice). Only when the guy gets handsy, her boss freaks out and clocks the guy. So now there's weirdness between them.

And then there's the mother of all awkward parties for Jamie's b-day. So, Batista decides to pick Miller over Quinn after Matthews tells him to pick one already. The Captain calls out Batista for his indecisiveness by claiming Angel wants to pick Miller, but he doesn't want to be the "bad guy" to his friend, and is trying to get Matthews to be all, "Hell no you're not picking Quinn" so he could be all, "Sorry, dude, I tried, but the bosses wanted to go another way". I guess there's some truth to that?

So Quinn is pissed, mostly because he could've cared less, until Angel told him to go for it and made him want it. And then Quinn in turn doesn't tell Jamie, so she makes references to Quinn being future sergeant in her thank you speech to everyone. And its doubly awkward, I think. First, there's the whole embarrassing Quinn having to correct her and airing all that shit out for everyone. And secondly, are the Batistas and Quinn like unaware of how tacky this makes them all look? Like Jamie is all, "How could you not give the job to Quinn?" It looks like she's trying to get Batista to commit nepotism!

And that's not the only awkward thing at the party- Masuka finds out in the beginning of the ep from Deb that Niki is in debt. So now he's worried that she is a gold digger and wants money out of him. After all, she seems to forget her purse a lot. Deb asks if she asked for money and she didn't, so Deb advises him not to think the worst of her and enjoy the time he's spending with his daughter. Of course, the brain surgeon thinks the best way to nip this in the bud is by just giving her a check for five grand, "because he knew she had financial trouble", which reveals he looked into her and makes him look like an ass. So she throws the money back in his face and leaves.

Oh, and turns out Zack is seeing Doctor Vogel- don't forget, Matthews said his father is a "friend of the department". So dad had heard of Vogel and sent his son to her since he's kinda creepy- after all, Dexter catches him listening on the police scanner for things and taking pics of blood spatter patterns and wot-not. Dexter wants to kill him, but Vogel suggests teaching Zack the code. Dexter refuses, saying if he proves Zack already killed an innocent, he wants permission to put Zack on his table. Its kinda weird that with Vogel around now, there's a part of him that wants approval for these kills.

Anyways, using Zack's interest in crime scene photography, Dex lets him in and teaches him the forensics basics, making it look like Zack's the one tricking Dex and pumping him for info. Dex gets an invite to his photo studio, and breaks in later to get definitive proof Zack killed that one lady. So he decides to kill Zack, despite Vogel's hesitation. Now, Quinn and Dex know Zack has his eye on some lady already, so they're both stalking Zack on their own. Dex tries to call off Quinn by calling Jamie and being all, "Quinn is secretly worried you're gonna dump him because he's not going to be sergeant", so she does manage to pull Quinn away. So Dex does maange to stalk Zack while he's stalking his victim (which turns out to be his dad, not the girl) and knock him out, and Quinn almost sees him with unconscious Zack. Heh, I knew Quinn being all, "I know what you're doing" from last week's promos were misleading- Quinn thinks he's playing amateur detective trying to catch Zack, and gives Dex his blessing to continue to watch the kid.

So, with Zack on the table, Dex learns Zack's dad is a serial philanderer, which is causing his mom to drink herself to death. He thought if he killed that first lady, the father would just quit it. But nope, he found this new chick not a couple of days later. So if killing his dad's gfs wouldn't stop him, he would kill his dad to save his mom. Now he had the same urges Dex had when he was a kid, and seeing the kid wants guidance, he decides to follow Vogel's suggestion to be a father figure to this kid and mold him to be just like him. I'm sure that will end well!

Finally, Deb and Dex are just chilling, when Deb passes out. Dex starts to pass out soon after, just in time to see Hannah show up above him.
