Merry Christmas everyone, or Happy Holidays, or..
People seem to get so wrapped up in all the specifics of this day, weeks sometimes months before, that they seem to forget to relax and enjoy the moment. To some today is about celebration, others the act of giving presents. There are so many people in the world and they enjoy this day in their own way, or not.
Seeing people running around trying to get that last present that will surely be "great" is just sad. That they are overtaken by something inside that tells them that they have to do this or that or it'll not be a proper Christmas. That they must get this and that and give it to someone. I fully appreciate the basis of giving gifts but it is truly sad that they are so overcome by feelings opposite to that what Christmas to me should be about, causing them to get depressed, anxious and downright grumpy. That they can't just enjoy it and not make it such a big thing. Is it a big thing? Growing up, it was nice getting presents and everything. But what I remember most are the moments with the family. Making our own decorations and decorating the tree and house, people sitting around the table laughing, sharing stories and eating a big Christmas dinner. Truly I barely remember what gifts I got, perhaps a bike here or a Lego set there. While in the beginning when I was young, it started out about getting presents, but at some point it changed to being about the other things about Christmas and enjoying family and friends. Not saying that presents weren't good. just not that important. To give you an unneeded and messed up analogy.. Christmas is like a bowl of ice cream. Presents were the cherry on top. Cherries are great on top but a bowl of ice cream it does not make.
Merry Christmas everyone.. Happy Holidays..
