Name: FRAGMENTS
PREMISE/SETTING
Sitting at the very edge of the universe, is the world known as the "junkyard". It's a dull, desolate place covered in endless sandstorms and littered with ruins from everywhere at once. Bizarre and inhuman figures wander the wasteland, some of them dangerous, others too pituful to bother with. Days and nights pass with the sky covered in dust, and sometimes the landscape changes without point or purpose.
Standing in the midst of it all, is a lone city surrounded by large walls that protect it from the monsters outside. It is a large place filled with life, where people make their own lives and an entire forest grows within the city walls. An enormous tower floats in the center of the city, the magic field around it expanding to protect the buildings from the storm and chase away the clouds to give everyone one small shot of the sky.
Welcome to the city at the end of the universe. The place where the worlds come to die.
Lately, however, something began to change. One by one, the stars in the sky began to disappear as numerous worlds came to an end at once. Their pieces, people who lived in them, monsters who haunted them and simple memories given form, fell onto the junkyard and populated both the desolate landscape and the city beyond the walls. Every day, people of the city would stare at the sky and wonder when the stars would come back... and if they could do anything to achieve that.
It is in this turmulous era, that your characters enter the city at the edge of the universe.
LOCATION
The city of the setting is an enormous place divided into districts. The districts are, at the core, more like locations with different functions. There is the main district, which is a cozy town done in Neo-Classical style, complete with large town squares, fountains and a peaceful life. There is a junkyard filled with artifacts from various worlds, a dense forest surrounding a magical tree and other curious locations. There are even slums, although the crime in the city is different from ours.
The tower in the city is a particularly important location. Not only does it act as a police headquarters, it also serves to maintain the weather as something one would expect from Earth and houses major facilities for dealing with more advanced mechanics in the game.
The locations outside the city are largely ruins and dungeons that only come into play during events and missions. The actual landscape is an endless wasteland and very little can survive there without help. More permanent locations may be introduced as the story continues.
There are also locations known as "fragmented reality" that will be explained in the next section.
FRAGMENTS
The titular Fragments of the game are pieces of annihilated worlds that fell from the sky and landed in the junkyard. They are effectively crystallized memories and life of the worlds that mixed until they took the shape of a specific object. Each fragment has its own unique shape and power granted by the world of its origin.
Fragments have various effects on the world of the junkyard. Some of them summon monsters from their original reality, while others alter the environment and perform incredible magic. Some of the fragments even have the power to create something called a "fragmented reality", a small localized space that behaves as a separate universe. Each fragmented reality operates by specific rules and is taken from a particularly important period from the world sealed within the Fragment, such as a major battle.
Each Fragment begins awakened and leaks its power without meaning. It takes someone to brave its dangers, such as defeat the monsters spawned by it or clear the event within the fragmented reality, in order to put it to rest and gain control over it. From that point, Fragments have two important functions.
First of all, it is possible to resurrect the worlds through Fragments. By bringing enough Fragments to the floating tower above the city, one can melt them together and revive a particular world. Although this world begins as a mass of unstable bubbles, going into these bubbles and performing events stabilizes it further and eventually revives it, bringing one more star to the sky of the junkyard.
However, it is also possible to use Fragments for personal gain. By tapping into the power of Fragments, one can perform miracles, resurrect the dead and achieve incredible power. The question is, will your character resist the temptation of using these pieces for their own gain or will they work to bring the universe back to normal? It's up to them to decide.
EVENTS
Events in FRAGMENTS are divided into three categories - random, optional and major.
Random events are just like events in every other RP. They may be monster attacks on the city, Fragments altering the reality of the world or NPC-powered situations. In the end, all of them affect the chars' world in one way or another, forcing them to go along or fight back with all they have. Of course, all of them will be possible to avoid. The city is big and there are a lot of points for evacuating civillians from dangerous situations.
Optional events are odd jobs to be done around the city, investigation of peculiar events caused by arrivals from other worlds, tasks that can be completed in dungeons, missions to be undertaken in fragmented realities and unstable worlds. All of them involve the characters working in order to affect the world of the game around them in one way or another. The game will feature a bulletin board where all these events are listed, as well as how many chars can work one event at once.
All these missions and odd jobs are completely optional and don't have to be performed. The characters can continue with their lives and do normal CR as usual. These are merely easy excuses for various characters to run into and interact with each other.
Major events are large sequences designed to advance the plot of the game. They will include villains from other realities, particularly powerful monsters and Fragments and so on. Some of them will be enormous things that affect the whole city, while others will be designed as sequences of random and optional events designed to encourage players to interact with and affect the world of the game. They are largely there to provide the sense of accomplishment.
The game is generally designed to highly encourage player interaction with the world. Each random event will involve an option to reserve specific monsters for events, and there will be a post where people will be able to request monsters or reserve specific locations for events surrounding their characters. Effectively, the game will be designed to encourage everyone to narrate the story surrounding their char in order to make CR more vibrant.
ABILITIES
Because the world of FRAGMENTS is dangerous, abilities will not be locked down. In fact, chars without abilities will be able to request for their chars to discover weaponry, study magic, manifest new powers or power up via Fragments. Although combat is not necessary, we'll do our best to back up the people who do want action-centric plots and make sure that people can mix and match it with more peaceful CR.
However, random overuse of abilities, violence and killing characters will be obviously punished with beatdowns, imprisonment and even temporary ability lockdown. Sometimes more bizarre penalties will be forced onto the chars if they want to have them. Basically, remember that while powers are good, ICA=ICC.
And that's pretty much it.
Opinions? Requests? Advice? I really want to do this one and would like to finish it. However, I would need an interested player base and several mods.
