Standing in a long line for a cup of coffee () holds two fingers to her throat without noticing. She stands and stares at the list of sugar frees and sizes and inadvertently feels for a pulse. This reminds her that some things continue, controlled but without focus. Someone is talking to her and she has a hard time hearing words over the loud machines so she opens her eyes wide to show interest and nods after pauses and smiles when they smile. She gives them a light squeeze around the shoulders and says their name with affection because names are very important. A gal can go far by remembering names. She resists the urge to roll her eyes as she resists the urge to feel their pulse as well. Drama is so tacky these days.
Saying goodbye to a piano can make a girl feel like a piece of wilting lettuce.
