Video completed for "High Gear" rolling ball sculpture!

I'm extremely happy to say that I'm finally able to get a little more caught up on some of my admin-related stuff for my artwork. I'd been having issues with editing videos since late last year, and finally, with the help of some friends, I figured out what the problem was and got it taken care of!

I immediately completed a video that I'd been waiting too long to complete, "High Gear," a fabulous sculpture inspired by my collector's passion for auto racing. He races go karts, and he asked if I could include a large gear from a race car transmission that he had been given. I said that, not only could I do that, but I'd love to add parts from his racing kart if he wanted as well. He loved the idea, and we went straight to his shop and sorted through interesting pieces that could become part of his artwork.

I would up being able to use two of his sprockets and the actual drive chain from his kart as the lift mechanism for this piece. It's awesome! I had to design two hubs for the sprockets and have them custom cut from stainless steel, then weld up the hubs for them. They turned out fantastic, their design being taken from the wheel of a 1964 Indy 500 race car mag. Too cool! I was able to add the big gear he'd wanted on it, plus make it an integral part of the ball course while ALSO making it removable without affecting the workings of the piece. It was a lot of work to do all that, but it really just turned out fabulously. My collector was extremely pleased, as was I. I'm so glad he's digging it and it's become a real fixture in his home.

If you are interested in my work, feel free to visit www.tomharold.com for information, videos of how I create my rolling ball sculptures, and plenty of photos and video of my other completed work in action!

But you probably want to see the video! Here you go, below. Enjoy!
