I truly wish fans would STOP trying to drag the actors into the fannish world. There's a lot of fanfic out there that I find distasteful (and that's MY opinion) and there's a lot of fanfic out there that is awesome. Slash, Gen, Het, Femslash - doesn't matter, all factions of a fandom have both fanfic that make people cringe and fanfic that make people squee. HOWEVER, to bring ANY fanfic, slash, gen, het, or femslash to the attention of the actors of a particular fandom is, to me, what crosses the line. If they go out searching for it, that's one thing, but there are a truly ridiculous number of fans that send links to the actors, PRINT the fanfic out and drag it to conventions to GIVE to the actors, ask pointed and absolutely cringe worthy questions regarding fanfic to the actors at said conventions, and all of those things are what crosses the line (and for the most part, I think that is what fans mean when they use the term "crossing the line" - it's not about being homophobic AT ALL).

Fandom is for the FANS, not the actors, not the writers, not the directors. No fan should be attempting to get an actor to read or comment on fanfiction for a variety of reasons, the biggest being that it is utterly tactless. What some fans seem to forget is that at the end of the day, the actor sees THEMSELVES on screen, and having some ridiculous fangirl/fanboy fawning all over them and trying to get them to see how EPIC their particular ship is - again, slash, het, or femslash - is just asking for awkwardness on behalf of the actor. I hate seeing fans get up in arms about actors not appreciating fanfiction because it's just so...boggling. I wouldn't want ANY actor, from ANY fandom I'm in to EVER see ANYTHING I've written, manipped, drawn, etc. Fans seriously need to stop trying to get approval from the actors in regards to fannish pursuits and just enjoy fandom with other FANS.
