Although it’s a family drama, I’ve tried to give it a more heightened glamorous look. Most English dramas tend to go for a naturalistic and straight style but I feel that Merlin is essentially a weaving of fairytale and legend and it deserved something a little more heightened. So you’ll see lots of back-lit shots and others that give it quite a pretty look that keeps it in the fairytale realm.”
