Megan Phelps-Roper was raised by Westboro Baptist Church, notorious for its homophobic and anti-semitic slogans, and eventually left the church after realising she didn't agree with their principles, mostly the idea that certain people can never be forgiven.
I enjoyed the expose of what life was like there, including the unpleasant songs they sang, and their sick behaviour in response to celebrity deaths (including Princess Diana). I thought this was a well-written and honest account. As a Christian myself, I certainly don't agree with Westboro's views, yet surprisingly, Megan does say in her book that she doesn't hate the church herself.
She tells about the love she showed her grandfather, Fred Phelps, when he was on his deathbed, and says how she wants to reach out to her own family. It was a brutally honest memoir, and one that I'd recommend to others to read.
