In Bruges: Day 4

Jul 22, 2016 10:40

Today was the last day in Bruges, and we got to see a chocolate-making demonstration. It was interesting, although two people ignored the "no photography" signs that I thought were quite prominent. We got samples of chocolate, but it was just thin slithers.

Most of the morning was spent exploring Bruges; the Blood Basilica was interesting.

There was a woman going around telling groups of people to shush, and a priest performing a ritual to do with the "blood of Christ". When he left the room, the place closed for lunch.

There was also a fascinating art gallery, which I really enjoyed going around. I also went around some chocolate shops looking for presents to buy others.

The trip back was okay, except for waiting at Lille Station, which was a bit chaotic. It was interesting to see how many people had gone on the trip but not done any of the tours, so I'd not seen them since we arrived. Lille Station has some complicated system of showing you where to stand to get on your carriage, and then often the train stops in the wrong place anyway. Then there was some drama because someone got in the wrong carriage and sat in an old lady's seat, but this one man helped out by giving her his seat until it was all sorted out; he also helped everyone with their cases.

We had dinner when we arrived at St. Pancras before going home.
