The Friday Five: Lose Yourself

1. What is the last book you read and what book(s), if any, are you currently reading?

Last book: Wolves of the Calla by Stephen King; see my review here.

Current book: Every Contact Leaves a Trace by Elanor Dymott; it's a murder mystery set in Oxford, but seems to mostly be told in flashbacks.

2. How about moving pictures? Are you a fan of any TV show or movie right now?

I like TV and films: Currently watching Agatha Raisin Series 4, and enjoying Noughts + Crosses Series 2.

The thing I'm a fan of most at the moment is Doctor Who: still enjoying the reboot, but will definitely miss Jodie Whittaker, while at the same time looking forward to watching Ncuti Gatwa in the role.

I want to start on The Midwich Cuckoos soon.

I've not been watching so many films right now, though I try to watch one a week if I can.

3. What's your favorite genre, and why?

In the past it's usually been science fiction, so I might have to say that, but I am becoming something of a thriller fan. I think in the past I've liked the escapism that science fiction brings, and how I can imagine something fantastical, but I also love the grittiness of a good mystery book, and attempting (and failing) to play armchair detective.

4. If we were all evacuating the planet, and you could only bring 3 unique works of entertainment for posterity, which would you pick? Let's just assume that we've coordinated it so there are no repeats.

Too difficult: Book - The Bible; not really entertainment, but useful (apologies to other religions); maybe another book too - what about Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, one of my favourite satires, and a great light hearted (mostly) look at a serious subject matter. Also, one TV show: The X-Files; I couldn't see that going to waste. Does it have to be a single episode? Maybe Season 3's "Jose Chung's From Outer Space".

5. Do you make new works as well (fannish or original both count)? Or is that not your skillset/interest?

Do you mean fan fiction? Check out my latest X-Files fan fiction - warning: Season 11 finale spoilers.

I'm trying to write my own 22-episode Season 12 as an unofficial final season.
