Meaningful May: Searching for the Meaning in Random Weirdness

May 05, 2022 18:36

Plants in pots at work, for the latest photo_scavenger prompt. Excuse the spotches in the background; I was obscuring the director's name on his locker: GDPR reasons.

The Release Your Potential meetings went well yesterday, despite having to move rooms for one of them, because a woman wasn't coming out of her skype meeting, and two of the three of us (me included) hadn't the heart to turf her out. We're just too nice.

In the second meeting, we cut down the number of slides for our presentation by more than a half; we'll have to make an extra effort because of another dropout, citing personal reasons (and not surprisingly he doesn't want to share, and based on his e-mail today, it seems some people were being a bit inquisitive). I myself take "personal reasons" as enough evidence that something isn't my business.

We had our first prayer triplet meeting in a while last night, and it was good to catch up with the guys, and do Midweek study together, and after that is when the weird thing happened.

I was waiting for the train, paid not a lot of attention to a guy getting on the next carriage with a pushchair.

I got in the next carriage, took a seat, and then pushchair guy walked through and sat in the group of four seats so he was facing me, with just one pair of seats between us. Then, I swear - he looked at me and addressed me by name.

First off, I had a mask on, and thought I'd be pretty much unrecognisable, and secondly, I didn't recognise him, and after that, he didn't say anything, making me wonder if I'd imagined it. I ignored him, and got on with my reading.

The addressing me by name resumed at the next station - it was a bit weird, as he didn't talk that loudly - when we saw the football fans boarding, I heard what sounded like him suggesting I sit in the group of four seats with him.

I did get up and move, particularly after it occurred to me that I was fairly certain he didn't have a kid with him, so why did he have the pushchair with him? Not sure if I'm going crazy, he had suffered a breakdown, or what was going on. I saw him heading for the toilets on the train, and he left the pushchair outside, blocking the aisle. I moved again, quite a long way down the train; I wasn't in the mood for any weird stuff, or "why did you move away from me? aren't you pleased to see me?"

I occasionally get recognised at random by people who I have no idea who they are; it's bizarre.

I've been thankful to Dad today, after he organised for two electricians to come around this morning, and give quotes for works, which hopefully won't be too disruptive. I'll ask him to help me to choose the best offer.

I went out to the polling station tonight because of the general elections; it was nice to get out of the flat, and I managed to record 2km out of 5km for the Enda 5k Run/Walk Challenge on Strava.
