Lightning would so have her eye on one of those mecha. Particularly the first one with the big sword.

Question though. Canonically she probably wouldn't have any mecha-combat experience. Is that necessary to be in the combat role or is there some kind of universal interface?

She may pair up with a character from the Hawking who is familiar with the systems to balance it out.

Uh, on that note, Oliver isn't a pilot, so does that mean he can't navigate after all? He's seen alien systems before, but he doesn't have any real knowledge of how they work.

I think Oliver just died at the sight of the giant mecha.

As soon as he's been revived, he'll be practically jumping up and down wanting to navigate for somebody.

Hm. Ice Kaiser works best in hand to hand (well, more like "standing a few feet away and mocking the enemy if they prove to be vulnerable to gravity and slick ice, since he isn't, and throwing very sharp ice spears or anything else to do with attacking by ice) but he will take part in whatever defense things he can manage.
