My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the floods, not only in Queensland but Ashford (a small town about half an hour away from my hometown of Inverell) as well. Inverell was very lucky with the McIntyre River breaking its banks but not doing too much damage aside from closing two low-lying bridges in town ( Read more... )

The New York Times has been reporting on the dreadful flooding daily LIKE THIS and THIS.

What I particularly liked about the first article is that it gave those of us who might be shaky on Australian geography (read: totally ignorant) a better idea of what was happening. FanSee

It's been on our free to air (non cable) tv channels for the last 4 days. It is very overwhelming as there is no break from it. The scary thing is that a cyclone is heading that way and water supplies are almost dry which will make things so much worse (if that is even possible).

Glad to see the news is spreading further afield though
