I made some progress... I think

I ran off this weekend didn't I? Sorry about the pron, but I had reached a point by Friday afternoon that I just ready to get the hell out of town. So, I packed up my bag and did just that. I went over to Jackson to work on my necklace. I figured that immersing myself in something fun and crafty would help take my mind off of life in general. Well, it sort of worked. Though I did have some moments of utter frustration and despair, I think I finally managed to come up with something I like. Sort of like. Okay, I'm 80% happy with it. Sort of.

So here is the first look at my Stargate Necklace design

Here is the overall look. You are seeing it without the gate because I'm still trying to overcome some issues in replicating the gate. The Gate will hang down on some wire between the 2 glass beads in the center.

The necklace measure approximately 20". Contains polymer clay, hematite, obsidian, and acrylic beads. Each of the 2 tiles have the Earth and Abydos Point Of Origin symbols on opposite sides. I flipped each one the other way to show both symbols.

I also stumbled upon an Egyptian mold set and have been making some Eye Of Ra symbols and some scarabs. If I can figure out a way to incorporate them into the necklace, I will. And you can see the Stargate I'm using to try and replicate. It's the key chain they sell through Creation. Yeah, lots of copyright issues I know, so sue me. ;)

My issues with the necklace are this:

+ Casting the Stargate. I think I've overcome this issue, but I'm not entirely sure. All the other molds I've made, the detailing is so intense and the design such that it gets distorted when pulled from the mold. And rebaking a clay mold is NOT a good idea, I found out. It simply fused with the clay I was trying to mold. Blah. So, I've ordered some silicone type stuff that says you can rebake over and over again, and liquid polymer clay. *crosses fingers*

+ Length. On my fat neck 20" doesn't cut it. In fact, the tiles end up being hidden in my hair, almost on my shoulders. So, I've got to figure out a way to add more length. Extra beads, maybe the scarabs or something.

Otherwise, I'm pretty happy. And I'm now in love with a site called Fire Mountain Gems They rule!

Please give me some feedback on this. I've been looking at it for so long now, my eyes are going crossed. I'd like to know what others think that haven't been staring at it for days. :)
