Their music is good, but they lost my sympathy when they started the over the top war against illegal downloading (aka napster back then). I mean, they own millions (maybe even billions) of dollars and they're pissed off when a couple of people put their music online? My sympathy goes out to artists who put their music online themselves and say that they'll get their main income from touring. I love people like that.
Yeah, that was pretty rank on their part. They needed to look at which way the wind was blowing before they did that. Hell, some bands release stuff directly to iTunes now (big bands).
The internet is actually a really good promotional tool, if used correctly.
Having said that, what's on my ipod is straight from Limewire (screw you record companies - I'm not paying $30 for a CD that has four or five songs that I'll listen to). But I do buy singles from iTunes, so that's not so bad. I think.
Hey, shush! I love "Viva la vida". :P It's one of my power songs.
I like Metallica - don't *love* them, because I'm the softer type, my cure - all - music are Bruce Springsteen and Sting, but my point isn't to correct your taste, I want to tell you that I know just how you feel about Metallica. Few weeks ago they had a open air concert here - it was rather cold, and the rain was pouring but the place was packed. ;)
Funny how your mood is affected by music. Metallica would drive me more toward suicide. But that's just my taste. If I'm in a bad mood, which I am this morning. It must be universal. LOL If I'm in a bad mood, I lean toward more quiet upbeat music though I can't think of a single thing that would pull me out of a mood. Country, if it's not the crying in my beer stuff. Celtic? Good grief. Not the fiddle tunes that all sound alike or the mournful ballads. Maybe Celine Dion. LOL
It depends on how you use it I guess. Metallica is really good for getting 'psyched' while doing something. It makes me more focused, probably more aggressive, and gets me into the mode for physical activity.
I was in a bad mood yesterday, and had the radio cranked right up to a Shihad song, when the line 'you're your own worst enemy' came through. That actually made me think a bit, so it made me pull my head in.
I've got some country on my playlist - Kenny Rogers at the very least. Country gets a bad rep, which is unfortunate as it actually covers a massive range of music.
Oh & I find it hard to believe you could really be in a bad mood. Unless the Macy's coupon didn't work :p
Awww, thanks. I think that was a compliment but I get in bad moods as much as the next guy. I just find that now that I'm ...ahem...a bit older, they don't last as long. LOL
So true about country. I have listened to and loved that music all my life from the old twangy stuff to the modern and like most of it. Right now I'm a bit turned off by the Taylor Swift crowd though. I've had all the thin voiced little girl singers I can stomach for awhile. Nowadays some of the pop singers are even moving over to country like Jon Bon Jovi, Darius Rucker and Jewel. Not to mention Kid Rock who is just the kind of good old boy that Nashville loves. And one of the best combinations in recent years was Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpjnaGOeHH4
I haven't reached the not lasting as long point yet, I hope that comes soon LOL.
Most of the Taylor Swift stuff I've heard I'd describe as pop music (I haven't got her albums, I'd imagine there's more 'classic' country there). Seems a bit like Shania Twain to me - not really country but not completely pop.
I didn't realise Jon Bon Jovi was moving over, will be looking up that later. And Kid Rock. I love All Summer Long - just checked out the vid on youtube before I posted this (I don't watch MTV much) MADE OF AWESOME - but it gets a bad rep here on the mainstream stations (even though they actually play it fairly regularly) because of it's country origins.
The Bob'n'Ali one you recced wouldn't play more than 40 secs for me, although I suspect it's probably a bit girly for me *shrugs*
