Fangirlish Musings: The tragedy of small/dead/dying fandoms

*Waves to friends list*

So, I was sitting here, working like a busy little bee on my current fiction writing obsession, my V for Vendetta ficlet. And as such, my mind inevitably wandered. I began thinking of what a shame it is that fandoms eventually peter out into nothingness...

Now, for me the two that immediately come to mind is "Hot Fuzz" and "V ( Read more... )

I can't really think of any fandom I've had before BDS so I can't say much for the peetering out stuff. Yeah a lot of the ff for TWD is a bit...bad, to be nice about it. I think perhaps it's because people are still getting to know the characters and flushing out what they would or wouldn't do. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

I would tend to agree with on the WD front. After all, there HAS only been 6 episodes in which to get a handle on the characters. Not to mention my stuff is on there and I don't largely think it is that good either..so perhaps I am calling the kettle black in that regard. But damn, there has been a few times where I have clicked on a story over there and died a little inside. *meep*

OH. And erm..how much would you murder me if I said I STILL haven't gotten around to watching BDS yet...*peeks over her computer chair, batting her eye lashes winningly*

That's ok. My BFF watched it and didn't like it. I swear if I didn't love her so much I'd have to boot her to the curb. ;)

If you like Norman, you'll love the movie. Also if you don't mind loads of swearing and violence.

*Snerk* Sounds like my type of movie. To be honest, it is on my list, I just haven't gotten around to it yet! Everything I have heard thus far makes me more and more excited to actually watch it.

Hahaha. My first online fandom was G.I. Joe. It was fun because I'd watched the cartoon as a kid and then a company "started" the story over again with a comic series aimed at adults. Which was awesome for a couple years until near the end of the series they killed off my favorite character, making her death questionably canon. Then a new kid's TV series started and "re-imagined" the whole thing and ruined it and everyone went "Phhhhbbbbbbt" and left fandom.

No, actually all the fanfic started to revolve around the new show and everyone I knew left the fandom, and it was taken over by tweens who wrote really crappy ninja stories, which was the same thing for me. In its heyday the fandom was pretty awesome, though (albeit small). And all of the good fanfic archives are gone (all the stuff with stories that couldn't be posted at ffnet).

Every once in a while I'll read fic in other fandoms, but for some reason they don't pull me in like Stargate has.

That is probably the cutest thing EVAR. Really.

Yes. Stargate. DAYUM. I have to admit, bar none SGA is my favorite fandom to top all fandoms. And it has been for YEARS. In fact, it was really the first time I got into/interested in fan-related works on a movie or television show. I ADORE SGA/SG1 fandom. It is so wonderfully VAST and VARYING!

(And it has Parrish. SO. AHEM. YEAH.)

I have a tendency to get into fandoms late so the interest has already passed by the time I'm there. I usually luck into a few interested people though so at least I have someone to talk to about it. I think TWD is the only fandom I've ever been involved in from the ground up (from show perspective, that is) and I am loving it! I think a lull is to be expected but, to be honest, I usually don't go looking for any fanworks other than icons. I don't read a whole lot of fic, for the most part.

That is funny actually, I find I generally get stuck in the same position. I have thus far come into 99.9% of all the fandoms I like, in the middle, near the end, or long after the end. Like you, the Walking Dead has been one of the only exceptions.

Icons are epic aren't they? *points at hers* I swear this is still my FAVORITE.

I adooore Shakespeare Re-told version of Macbeth with McEvoy! And slash pairing in that version: Joe Macbeth/Billy Banquo.
