So I had the job interview yesterday. I arrived at HP right around 1:45 for my 2pm interview. I sat in my car for a bit, scribbling down any last minute questions I could think to ask the supervisors. At about 1:50 I stepped out of my car and made the walk to the building.

As far as the surroundings, really beautiful. Its a quiet compound set back in the woods and all the landscaping was really well kept and pretty impressive looking (don't ask me why that matters to me). Anyhow, I walk into the lobby and check in with the security guard, who seems really nice. Once I check in, I take a seat in the lobby where I wait for about 10 minutes. Eventually Rob D, one of the said supervisors comes down to greet me. Although he wasn't what I pictured he'd look like (I was expecting a younger guy), he was a really nice, I'd guess in his late 40's who I immediately starting striking up conversation with on the way to the interview room.

Once we got into the room he immediately made me feel comfortable and offered to grab me a drink or anything I wanted, I declined. He began to explain to me a little bit more about the position I was there to interview for and what exactly his department does, which I was really interested to hear. So the initial interview and introduction with him lasted about an hour and was very informative. Once he left, he introduced John to me, who was the next person who would interview me. John was the Firmware Engineer for the Tape Storage division. He was also, a very cool guy and I found it very easy to talk and joke around with him. More than anything I tried to be myself with everyone I met and really express my desire to learn. So John and I talked for awhile and then he gave me a tour of the lab I'd be working in a lot of the time.

The lab was very impressive. Fiber lines running all over the place, coupled with all sorts of HP equipment, tape drives, testing stations, all sorts of fancy equipment I couldn't wait to get my hands on. He walked me through the lab and explained the roll I would fill in the lab and what he would need me to do for him. I'd go into more detail, however I'm trying to keep the geek level of this post down to a minimum.

After John was through, I met Nick Dentino who I think had the title of System Engineer although I cant remember completely. He runs a lot of the testing and scripting duties along with John. Nick was an awesome guy who I immediately hit it off with. He sort of explained the things that I would be assisting him with and some of the daily things I could expect to see. Eventually we got into the subject of hobbies, etc. I mentioned that I liked to snowboard and he said that he lived 10 minutes away from Wachusett and that him and his wife often go to have dinner and just watch people come down the mountain during the winter. He also mentioned that he liked to ski occasionally. So towards the end when we shook hands and he was walking away, he said, "Who knows, if it all works out maybe we can go snowboarding this winter." AWESOME.

Anyhow, the last person I met with was Ashok (sp?). Ashok was also, a very nice guy who was the manager of the entire department. Most of what we talked about was my availability for remainder of the school year and what kind of hours I could put in. After our brief conversation, Rob came back in and did a final wrap up of everything and let me know when I could expect to hear back about the position. He walked me to the lobby, shook hands and I was on my way.

Overall, I'm really stoked about the interview. Everyone in the department was really awesome and all of the other people Elvis introduced me to after the interview were really awesome. A few things I really liked about it, casual dress. I can come into work and wear what I usually wear, no business attire needed :D. Also, cafeteria, lounge room and gym were really awesome bonuses. Did I mention the pay? According to Elvis, since I am a senior this year the minimum I will be starting at is $21.75 an hour, maximum being $23...for an INTERN position :O

All that's left to do at this point is wait. Ashok and Robert will be in China on HP business until Monday, October 8th which is when I should find out. Keeping my fingers crossed! Elvis is the master of hookups <3
