So, last week my buddy Elvis forwarded me an email from HP, where he works. To sum it up, they're looking for an intern in their Tape Storage division starting this month or sometime fairly soon. Ive asked Elvis in the past if they've had any openings as I was pretty interested in working at the headquarters. So I sent out my resume and expressed my interest in the position in an email.
Here's the job summary included in the email:
"Person will work under the supervision of an engineer, testing and analyzing USB and SAS implementation on digital tape drives. This will consist of creating, modifying, and using existing scripts to test new tape drive products for correct operation. When unexpected operation occurs, the position will require investigation to determine the root cause of the failure. The person will be trained and then expected to use test equipment, such as a protocol analyzers, to determine the cause of failure. Ideally, with experience, the person will work with the supervising engineer to determine the requirements to correct the problem. All activity must be documented in a professional manner."
Anyhow, just as I sit down at my desk this morning. I get a call from Robert Duncan, engineer at HP telling me that I've been considered for the position. I really wasn't expecting the call so it was a pretty big surprise. We talked for awhile and he wanted to set up an interview for this Friday up in Marlborough, MA. So it looks like I'll be taking a trip up there this Friday. They would like to have a full time intern, however they said they would consider a part time intern who could manage both school and work.
The only problem I could really see is trying to get up there during the week, as I have this job at JWU, plus classes during the day. However the main reason I am keeping this job here is because of the scholarship (3k a year). I would definetly try to juggle the three jobs with classes however, if it wasnt working out, I would definetly consider cutting the Marketing job if this internship works out.
