I have been sitting relaxing for the past few hours, trying to remember the last time that I dedicated myself to just doing nothing. My schedule this week has been crazy! Aside from working nearly a full week, I did the following. Monday was dinner with Barb in Downtown Crossing, followed by costume hunting/purchasing. The first store denied me the opportunity to try on a nurse's outfit since I am a man, so I had to hike myself over to the Garment District/Boston Costume in Kendall Square. Luckily, I found the most gorgeous Greek god costume- a silky white toga with blue trim on the hemline and cuffs, gold and blue around the neckline, a long scarf of the same blue and white material, a golden belt rope, and a gold laurel leaf headpiece. I also found a harp that looks like something a Greek god of music (Apollo) might carry! For a buck fifty!
Tuesday I had dinner plans with Lucien at 7:45, which was the earliest I could do since I worked until 7pm in Boston and it takes me that long to get home on the subway. Dinner was delicious and it was great to catch up, but yet another long day and night!
Wednesday, as you know faithful reader, was the night I saw Sweeney Todd with Mary. That's Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, in case there was any confusion.
Last night, Thursday, I made two chocolate layer cakes. With only one 9" pan, it took a good three hours to bake all four necessary layers. Then there is cooling off and assembly. The first two layers were joined by raspberry preserves and frosted with chocolate frosting, then topped with fresh raspberries. The second cake was also chocolate but joined together and frosted with homemade vanilla buttercream frosting. Cake 1 was a little lopsided because I made up the idea to use preserves as a layer and the vanilla frosted cake showed a lot of crumbs IN the frosting, but both tasted fine and went over like hotcakes in the office today!
Tonight, Will and I had plans to catch up and listen to a CD I made him over rum and cakes, but he is still stuck in Boston (across the harbor from me) nearly 3 hours later. Silly Boston traffic! At least I can use the time to play catch-up on LJ!
Much love,
James
