Happy Chinese New Year!

新年快乐!

And so begins another year by the lunar cycle--the Year of the Boar/Pig (Kagura's year, for those of you who follow Fruits Basket). In the race/contest held by the Emperor to determine which animal would get which year, the Boar was the twelfth and final animal to arrive at the throne. She started late because she had been eating her breakfast...or so says the little poem we had to memorize back in grade school.

People born in the year of the Boar are thought to be friendly, loyal, and patient, hiding a warm interior behind cold exteriors. At the same time, they can be selfish, unhealthy, ignorant, pushy, lazy, and rude. They enjoy nature and stability.
(I wikipedia-ed the above information, if anyone's wondering. They have a very interesting section on the Chinese Zodiac.)

On that note, I hope the new year brings everyone lots of luck and joy and prosperity. In referencing Aristotle's Theory of Virtues, may all of you acquire that which will allow you to fluorish in life as individuals (yay, philosophy geek!). Oh, and if you know anyone who's a Boar, advise them to wear a lot of red this year.
